Why does everyone love AMPEG so much?

People like Ampeg because of the same reason they like Fender, Gibson or Marshall. They are classic. They came from an era when rock ruled the world. Rock stars got the chicks , fans paid them for their music and old people hated it. As time marched on, we figured out better ways to make guitars and amps. But they sounded different than the old records the defined the sound of rock.

I like ampeg amps. I have some of the old ones in my garage right now. They still make versions of the old ones that made them famous and they make modern stuff that is on par with everybody else.

Uhhhh...... No Definatly not that. I fully disagree

This subject thread (you are not the first) grows so fast! Every time.
Look into where the name "Ampeg" can from, lots of history there. Classic sound some just have to have, some its brand loyalty (lots of years seeing them plastered on stages)?
Some see "SVT" in the model name and think that is the sound? I guess if someone plastered "Fleetside" on a Corvette they would load it up and try to haul a ton of bricks? :hiding:

A lot of people say that half the Ampeg tone comes from the Ampeg cab the head is used with. Personally, I think Ampeg cabs are tone killers and make their heads sound like poo. If you haven't tried one of their heads with a different brand's cabs then I suggest you do. I play my SVT through a Genz Benz and it sounds soooooo good. By comparison, I recently played half a gig with a backline Ampeg 8x10 and my tone was horrible. I switched to my Genz for the second half of my gig and was in tonal heaven.

They do when its free

I'm a poor college student, but I'm a snob when it comes to beer. I'd rather go beerless than drink coors. But then most people my age drink to get drunk, not because they actually like beer.
On a side note I'm an ampeg user too. Love the tone of the V-4B. The only tone I've ever liked more was from my 1968 Guild Thunderbass, but that was unfortunately only about 50watts, which wasn't enough power for my needs.

I'm a fan of really deep tone that maintains highs. Ampeg doesn't do that for me.

There is your answer. Lots of people like Ampeg *because they tried one out and they liked the way they sounded through it*. It's as simple as that. In fact, I find that many other players do sound excellent through Ampeg rigs. I don't. I don't personally like the way I sound through Ampeg or enjoy the feel of playing through one, but I cannot deny that others sound great through them. Hence it is not a mystery to me at why so many like Ampeg. Nevertheless, Ampeg is not for me. See? No problem. Why couldn't you figure that out on your own? Or is this secretly a troll thread and you were really trying to say Ampeg sucks?

There are “attitudes” people get about certain brands of gear… just some “rebellious” thing, typically against dominant brands… like Fender for instance (which I happen to be cool with).

Well, that’s what I’ve got against “ampeg”.

No rhyme nor reason, just an ignorant point of view, but that’s what I’ve got, and I won’t consider and ampeg (notice I wouldn’t capitalize the “a”… how ignorant is that!?) :o

Fortunately, there are so many other awesome options, we can be ignorant and still sound good.

:)
