Why does mordern pop music suck?

When your 5 year old daughter sings this hit song that's on the radio. Yea it's a problem to me.
Then do something about it. She's your daughter.
Would you rather see sing wholesome hits from the 80s like Private Dancer, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Like A Virgin, White Lines, Girls Girls Girls, I Want Your Sex, Man Eater, Physical, Push It, or Darling Nikki.

The only way my band plays new pop music is if someone requests it and pays us for our trouble.

For years I have told my band, when we have disagreements on song selection or direction of the band, the problem with new pop is there is NO "staying power"...a song hits and is typically gone in 3 months. If I'm gonna learn a song, it has to be something that will be performed and appreciated 2-3 years from now.

We have over 150 songs in our rotating repertoire and learn 3-5 new, to us, songs monthly. So we're not getting stagnant.

I just saw this video and my suspicions were reinforced by it. There is a bit to digest here, but I think the video sums things up quite nicely. One thing I really miss is dynamic range in recordings. Why does every sound have to be in your face?
Anyway, Get Off My Lawn!

Because the new generation of listeners have no patience to listen to a good story unfold while the sounds of professional musicians pour their heart and soul into building up the landscape. The kids have been programed to accept and expect the BOOM BOOM BOOM that is 90% of songs on the radio or in the clubs. When this Clown showed up in boom boxes back in high school around 1987 I laughed my guts out and said "This wont last through the summer". Ive never been more wrong in my life:(. How could people be so shallow to have allowed this to happen?. Its been mentioned this week that the Rock music genre fell to like 3rd place on the radio charts. :vomit: Please dont challenge me on this, Ive been hating since 1987 and will continue to do so as long as this soulless heartless talentless crap persists.

Haha no pun intended but you guys are sounding just like your parents back in the day. :D
Stuck in the seventies, eighties, nineties or whatever. You're turning into whiny old men yelling BACK IN MY DAYS ... that's what. Crawl back under your stones FFS.

You're checking for good music in the wrong places that's all.
There are MANY great new bands out there, they just don't get airplay much.

Not much imagination on music and lack of abilities. This generation is just mad, angry and wants to lyrically either shoot or screw you.
And then they don't want to offend anyone....lol
They need a real guitar hero too......We had many of them...

The gosh darn radio is a hooligan! Off to talkbass I go!

They had a bunch of new stuff blaring where the wife gets her hair done, sounded like a mall Hot Topic store. Some was cool some was not, all had a catchy repetitive beat, or sample of someone else's beat. Usually a popular catch phrase being sample repeated, and diva singing, or rapper rapping. But not really different the any mass produced music though the years.
I thought of it as Ikea Music.

It has to appeal to the least common denominator to have the biggest chance of selling the most units ... it used to be whole albums (LPs), now its singles, or full blown video spectacles where the music is not as important as the distractions of pyrotechnics, flashy lights, scantily clad choreographed dancers, etc.

As long as an enormous chunk of the music buying public just wants something they can shake their booty to, or so Susie Homemaker can hum along to something uplifting while she's making dinner or housecleaning all day (< that is my Mom to a T!), or the management of a store that wants to make everybody that comes in comfortable enough to spend their money there ... they're going to stick with sounds that are safe, and don't make people think too much, or offend their delicate sensibilities.

Barf :vomit:
This is a reason I like Starbucks (or at least the airport one I frequent). They play old jazz and it gets me into the coffee buying mood. Pop doesn't have that same effect, personally.
