makes me wonder if i really want to sell my HXB406 fretless for one of the above...or just add to the collection

But the Z6, being that it costs $500; how comparable is it to the Ibanez SR506? I played the 506 and it is a fantastic bass.
...or a Peavy GrindBass for $469?

I have a blue Z6. I am not the best 6 player, hence the reluctance to spend much coin on one, but I have had 3 Rondo 6ers. I have never seen anything as nice as a Z6 for anything less than double the price. My preamp has an issue, in passive mode I have no tone control... but I can live with that until I decide what I want to replace it with.

And there is no spot on the back, that is lens flare.

Oh, the other 2 sixers I had are:
I still have this one (Douglas WOB826):

I sold this one after I got the Z6 (Brice HXB-406):

I know what you mean with the new models-if they put the "seafoam green" on a fretless J, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.
Of course, I'm already seriously considering the "Lake Placid Blue" one anyway but if they put out the green in fretless I would just need to figure out 2 things 1-which friend's house to have it delivered to and 2-how to sneak is past my wife and into MY house (or, HER house if you prefer!):p

my HXB had no tone control in passive mode either. I think that's just how the preamp is set up.
I think the later HXB's like the one I got has the same preamp as the Z6 (that is by looking at the wiring diagram on rondo' site.)
looks like this:

My G&L is the same way. I don't care because I NEVER use passive anyway.

I put a Bartolini 4.6 A/P 3-band pre in the HXB, and it sounds absolutely killer. I highly recommend it.
Oh, and I just checked the passive mode on it, no tone control.

But about the Spalted one...today I ALMOST convinced myself that I need it.
I'm just crazy.

Thanks Eddie, for letting me know that I am not alone, and that this is not limited to whoever makes Brice's preamps! Although I must admit that I am surprised that the Bart behaves similarly.

I do use passive, but I can get enough tonal control from the blend control. Anyways I rarely use the tone on any of my passive basses except for the 2 SX SB-301's, cause they are fairly bright.
