Why does TalkBass love the P Bass so much?

I am definitely an old geezer and I love Ps! I also loved Ps when I got my first one(66) when I was 14 and I recall loving them as a teenager and I gigged and loved them when I was in my 20s and I gig and love them them now in my 60s!
They are loved because the sound is what a bass should sound like!
I did persuade myself that my Fender Jazz, with the neck pickup solo'd, sounded almost identical to my Precision bass when I sold my Precision to fund buying a Rickenbacker.
I love the Rickenbacker ... probably my favorite bass ever ... and I love the Fender Jazz ... but I expect I will eventually buy another Precision bass too.

Could be wrong, but I think the largest bass specific club on TB, per number of pages, is the Thunderbird club. So I guess you could ask 'Why does TalkBass love the Thunderbird so much?' And so on and so forth ad infinatum
The P bass looks better but.......
The Jazz bass sounds better and is more comfortable to hold and play.
Took both to a gig last weekend, tuned the P, put it on the stand. Tuned the J, never took it off. Feels better, sounds better, more comfortable to play.

It's not only on TB. The Precision was and still is an industry standard, and I believe, still the #1 seller worldwide.

I have 2 of 1 and 4 of the other.
I prefer the Jazz.
The P is the industry habit. Ask any sound engineer. Its an automatic response and look how many bass options we have today.
The P bass established its' sound on recordings. It doesn't carry over to live work where it booms too much and is thin on top without equal volume or tone across the strings. Easy to sound nice at home for practice but a let down on stage.
Am in my 11th lustrum playing so this is certainly not a flippant comment.
It does sound its best however, on open air gigs.

I’m confused, I’ve searched Talkbass and found very little information on this “P” Bass you are referring to.

P basses record well. I have noticed I prefer recording with my Stingray Special lately.
Hate jazz or PJ necks.....and jazz basses cannot get that mean P sound.

To me a P sounds different than a J with the neck soloed. Also the body shape is more comfortable on a P. I agree though that there's no reason not to have a PJ instead of a P. The bridge pickup isn't hurting and can only help.
