Why have a low c# string?

Wow, sounds like someone needs a nice tall glass of hate what you don't understand juice.

It takes a belly full of that stuff too tell someone else they should try it! No thank-you sir. ;)

You are incredibly close-minded as to how material culture is created and valued. Importance is in the ear of the listener.

I really doubt you have spent much time contemplating the meaning of what you are saying. But I wouldn't call you close minded.

When Anthony Jackson brought the first iteration of his 6 string to some recording sessions, he got major flack behind his back: "Tell him if he wants to bring his science experiment he can book his own sessions."

Well, yes. Most people who show up to work and tell their boss and coworkers to "F*** Off" with their actions are asked to go home.

Well. I doubt you can give an example of a meaningful piece of music that uses the sub contra

Excuse me? How is it that you're in the position to tell people what meaningful music is? I've held off posting because I don't have an opinion on the subject myself, but if you're going to start telling people they can't have an opinion then I can't go without saying anything.

Meaningful music can't be defined, because it is purely an OPINION. Anything can be 'meaningful' to someone, something as seemingly insignificant even as a chewing gum wrapper could be meaningful to them, it might be the chewing gum that their dad was chewing as he returned from years of fighting in Afghanistan. Who are you to say what's meaningful and what isn't?!

Personally, I can't stand most modern chart/pop music, but I appreciate that it's meaningful to someone, somewhere. It might just be one lyric, but that one lyric has the power to affect emotions, thoughts, anything! It may not have been intended that way, but that's how it happened because different people interpret things different ways.

And with regards to the blasphemous comments, show a bit of respect. I don't agree with athiests, but I don't use their beliefs as an insult. Again, IT'S AN OPINION! It doesn't have to be yours to be right.

Thank you,
Joe

Well, when I was reading the interview from which I got that quote, I took it to mean that producers didn't like the 6 string bass, not Jackson himself.

Sounds like you have some cool information about Mr. Jackson. I love hearing about the history of our instrument and the people who have had a great hand in furthering its design. Can you share in more detail how he might have alienated his coworkers or give me the source of your info?

Well yes Joe, I am in that position, and now you are too.

I haven't much if any Athiest vibe here. Lots of my good friends are Athiests, or at least Agnostic.

But since YOU are opening that can of worms JOE, I'd say I more recognize some of the attitudes as a reflecting the mindless armchair philosophy of wannabe Anarchists, Alchemists, maybe even followers of Crowley.

The overall attitude in this thread is just one of utter disrespect and rudeness. I'm 16, and yes, I'm a christian. I was referring to your use of the words Christ, messiah etc etc etc.

I'm not telling anyone what 'meaningful' music is. As I said, it has no definition because it's based purely on the individual. You have no right to tell people they 'can't show you a piece of meaningful music' because, quite frankly, that's none of your business. You (and to a much lesser extent some others) have been nothing but rude throughout this entire thread and it's disgusting.

Just because you don't agree with someone, doesn't mean they're wrong. All I ask is that we drop this topic and learn some common manners.

As I said, I have no opinion on why someone would want a low C#, that's their decision to make. I only asked that we all have a bit of respect for each other please.

Joe

Anthony met, identified, and has followed his Muse from what I can tell. He's received and brought music to the table at the same time he's brought the instrument. He's presented a convincing case for sub contra music on bass guitar.

He's led the charge on this sub contra electric bass, like Jaco did with fretless. More recent players are missing the point by creating instruments without an organized, audible, or even intelligible vocabulary.

Wow, you sure are good at extrapolating what isn't there. How did you get that from what he said?

If you posted less Jimmy, you might more time to think.

I'll just remind you of who it's pretty well agreed upon is coming off really bad in this thread, and add this:
