Why I NEVER Vent On Here About Band Problems

Sometimes, really most times for me, posting about band issues, appropriately, I think, in a forum called "Band Management" is a smart way to vent, not let things build up, and not feel the need to discuss every little perceived infraction with your coworkers, and get the varying opinions of others who do the same job that you do. But, like always, ymmv.

Great post but I have to disagree with you to a degree......we all have travelled different roads, your road is but one way to get to a destination...I stand by every thing I said in that first example......I didn't bother to reply in the other
I guess you skipped point 1 at the end:

1. It's perfectly fine to have differences of opinion how to handle things, but truly consider what you're offering as advice, and make sure you've put at least a little thought into your replies.

And you did. And I never once said that my road was the only way to get there. But that whole thread never offered up a viable solution for prevention of it in the future, and let's face it...it was a fluke occurrence in Ken's world.

I dont start many threads, I mostly chime in, but the times I have are usually because people here "get it", or have at least been in similar situations. Dont have to agree with me 100% and maybe Ill get something that changes my perspective.

My wife doesnt even like the music I play or like. Most of my friends are not musicians either. So its an opportunity to vent to sympathetic ears.

I did learn a lesson about everything on here being searchable though as a former bandmate found some posts I made, luckily nothing damaging.

Oh and, it was the sub drummers fault.

Well sure...I'm not saying never post. I'm just saying that folks should use some discretion when they do, and brace themselves for the onslaught of poop posts they're inevitably going to get. Like Thin Crappy Tone's :P

yeah, thats true. you are right about that......and thanks for taking the time to clarify

So I have been known to drink a bit. I have had nights (3 in ten years) where I could no longer stand so I sat down. It was funny to the others even though I felt bad about it. Our guitar player got so drunk that he gave his guitar to the nearest girl for the remainder of the 4th set (twice in 5 years). We got our drummer so drunk that he couldn't talk had to call his wife take him home (once in the five years he was with us). There was a particular gig we used to play (three to four times a year) where the person who hired us purposely kept the tequila flowing trying to get us drunk because she said that we were great entertainers when we were sloshed. SO WHAT! No One Got Fired or Even Talked To. We used to have drinking contests with the entire bar against the band, we had a ball. People loved it. All disclaimers apply...I do not propose that people partake in this craziness. If it's not for you, don't do it. If you don't like it stay away from the situation. Last but not least, never try to outdrink my band.

Ok so that was the old me. We are starting back up after a 5 year semi hiatus. It won't (can't) be like that anymore. My goal is a drink per set.

At times he did, and more than once concerts had to be cancelled (or they had to pull a teenager out of the audience to play).

If you ever find a book "Full Moon" (Moon the Loon in England), get it. I lost my copy. It was written by Moon's private assistant. Quite entertaining and enlightening.
I read it years ago. Good book. I still fail to see what someone not being Keith Moon has to do with being tolerant of a small handful of screwups.

I am not famous *at all*, I live in a small town in Virginia, and there are at least 6 other members of this forum who live in my town - I know this because I see it in their profiles. Another 8 or 9 live an hour down the road in Richmond. I gig in Richmond, and cats from there gig in my town.

Besides them, how many more members are there that don’t note where they live in their profiles?

Damn straight I keep my sensitive band business to myself, off of this forum!

Love this post.

I've only made one thread on TB in my 15 years here about a problem with a bandmate (drummer, coincidentally), and I ended up quitting the band over it (it was the most successful band I've ever been in, and the first one I ever got royalty checks from, so I walked away from a lot). I didn't care who saw the post, because the issues I had with the drummer were well-known within the band, and had been discussed at length with the drummer over a long period of time.

The point of this reply is simply that although I agree it can come off as unprofessional at best and detrimental to future work at worst, sometimes folks posting these things have given plenty of thought to the consequences before finally turning to TB for support. Not all of them (us?) go about it the ideal way, but sometimes a situation degrades to the point of not really caring what the consequences might be.

Honestly your post could apply to the whole forum. Any effects forum people just post their favorite pedal regardless of criteria the poster gave. Same with bass and amps forums (whatever flavor of the month is big gets all the comments). I honesty avoid all 3 of those forums. I find recordings to be great it’s just music lovers sharing music. Bassists great, people mostly talking postitive about bassists they admire. And strangely Strings, where the people in the know actually have tried all the strings out there and are able to help point people in the right direction.

the rest I avoid. It didn’t used to belike this. people just trying to be funny instead of helpful Is an epidemic. If I see a thread with more than 2 pages I just swerve it. Guaranteed to be 90% garbage posts that have nothing to do with anything.

i digress
