Why Is Internet Outrage So Popular?

Well, that's true. I'm not talking about our long history of having dicks among us, though. I'm talking about the ability to do it in a way that the whole world sees you being a dick and the encouragement from other dicks to do just that.
I think it is some sort of mental release valve or temporary anti-social mental state. Like daydreaming about doing something terrible, rather than actually DOING something terrible. Out in the meat world I see people being less tolerant of the dicks. I think that incrementally fewer will be blind followers of negative dogma, biases and prejudices in our increasingly connected world. That is MY hope.

I think part of the problem is also that when communicating over the internet, it's too easy to label anyone you disagree with as a "dick", as there is no body language and no greater context that you would have when meating someone face to face in real life.

So things have a way of escalating quite rapidly from there, I think we're all guilty of that from time to time.

And then be banished forever. This is why Facebook is always overwhelmingly positive and if you post anything that can be even mildly considered negative, you are basically that bad person . Then, because everybody these days has such an abundance of friends on Facebook you are easily eliminated as a commodity and not a person anymore.

I don't know if I completely agree with that. Facebook is filled with all kinds of drama queens and drama kings who post nothing but negative crap about how everybody in their own personal lives suck. Frequent topics include: people are fake, boo-hooing over imagined disrespect towards their children by somebody, people are fake, their ex is a bitch/ass, people are fake, how their school isn't treating their precious child like a prince or princess, people are fake, some argument with someone started at the bar, and people are fake. If I know these people well in the real world, I'll usually just hide their status updates. If I don't know them that well or only have a superficial relationship with them, I'll usually delete them. But I don't know if other people are doing the same thing.

I marvel at the wisdom of the webs. This place is cool. I give thanks - talkbass.com makes the world a better place.

Years ago, Mark Twain reflected upon some of the negativity in his world. Nothing much has changed. That's not to say though, that change is impossible. And, sometimes it's just a matter of walking away.

Thing is, I don't believe that there is any more negativity in the world now than at any give time, or that the world is going to hell in a handbasket because "young people these days are crazy" .

If you do, you're probably just gettin' old... ;)
Couldn't 'ave said it better myself. Some considerations - The sheer weight of humanity today equates proportionally to more negativity - and, with a little help, it's sticking out like a sore thumb. And, perhaps, as our understanding grows, we are becoming more capable of causing strife - so negativity, in the wrong hands, can make more mischief than once would've been possible. And now, with many of our most important lessons learned, there is a greater perspective in the world, composed of greater awarenesses and deeper wisdom. So, more people are seeing the Emperor's tailor for who he really is. All this can become positive but only if we continue to walk away from injustice.

I do fear that I'm gettin' old ;)
