Why Is Internet Outrage So Popular?

it happens because we don't visit places like this often enough: (rashol, himanchal pradesh, india; no electricity, no connectivity, no roads)

thanks baba.. its one of the places in india that's not screwed up.. yet

Lol, "baba"? The hell does that mean? Maybe I should know, as "Vicotnik" (Yusaf Parvez), the guitarist in my band DHG is half-Indian? Still have no clue...

We're definetely the only Norwegian black metal band that makes the crowd scream "hail shiva" between songs, rather than "hail satan" though. Seriously.

Life would be better without'm
meh, they're quite easy to get along with once they're restrained properly.

Seriously, the anonymity is the basic problem. I do see a problem with some people taking this and running their behaviour out into the real world. This is an extremely unnatural level of contact and communication considering the lack of body or voice cues. Intent is much easier to ascertain in a phone conversation - I'm a much nicer person over the phone because it is apparent my words could crush or confuse a real person.

Back in the CB craze days you also had a high ratio of dicks to regular people on the air. It is the ability to talk shite without having to back it up that frees up the inner Root Boy Slim in so many people.

This is a little OT, but I haven't had my coffee yet and the first few posts in this thread made me think of this. I belong to another forum where there are often heated discussions and lots of very black and white opinions. I was really getting into it with someone not that long ago, and while driving on the highway I was getting all worked up thinking of how I was going to "show him" in my next post... how wrong he was... how right I was... bla, bla, bla. And then I drove past a housing complex somewhat like this:

I pictured some fat old bald guy (not that there's anything wrong with fat old bald guys) sitting in his underwear behind a desk in one of those windows being the guy I was getting into this sheeiit with. In an instant everything seemed to fall into place. My forum activity got put into perspective. Here I was, getting all adrenaline pumped, on a beautiful sunny day, IN MY HEAD, over a stupid disagreement with 1 of the billions of strangers on this planet, who I probably wouldn't even give the time of day to in real life. Somebody who is COMPLETELY insignificant to me. I got into the same kind of stuff not too long ago with some people here when I bought a brand new, yet broken, stratocaster and posted about it. I allowed one of the people sitting in a room in the picture above, who would otherwise have no significance in my life whatsoever, rent space, for free, in my head. Going to do my best to not get engaged in such nonsense anymore. From now on, if you annoy me, you're either a fat bald guy in your underwear behind desk in your bedroom with a beer and cigarette.... or you're this guy....

Who I won't argue with either. Well... maybe I wouldn't argue with him.

I'm a veteran of the chat wars.
In all my time in unmoderated chat, the worst incident I recall was stalking.
I saw verbiage battles that involved daily call outs..."meet me in Times SQ, under the Sanyo sign tomorrow at 13:00...".
Only results EVER were the occasional whack job who appeared to have showed up, posting cell phone pics with timestamps of the Sanyo sign and the sidewalk below.

To my knowledge, not one of these physical meetups/whoopass sessions EVER went through.
