Why Is Internet Outrage So Popular?

People still perceive the internet to be a place where they can act anonymously. That in turn leads them to think that they're divorced from any responsibility for their own actions or words. As a result they do and/or say things that they usually wouldn't do or say in the company of people they know, and very often go off on tirades because they feel the internet is a safe place to do so.

They're coming to get you!

Actually, what really happened is your boss e-mailed me and said he was going to fire you for trying to scare people on TBOT.

I hope you two had a nice chat.
OK, sorry, got more than a little off topic.

I've read a few stories from different boards where Facebook has gotten people into trouble at work, or in their private lives. For me it just seems like a possible source of trouble. I probably would not be considered a person with squeaky clean Mickey Mouse ideas. Unfortunately, in the real world these days people cannot stand to put up with someone who has a differing or alternative view on anything; therefore why post stuff up on a website with my real name and draw a target on my head? Perhaps one day I will become a crusader for a cause of some sort (or a business of some sort) and will get up there and post my butt off on different social media, but for now it just seems a farce.

If the day comes where a potential employer can examine all the posts I ever made on any website, I guess I'll just have to find an employer who can put up with a real person who is not exactly perfect. Long live the Mouse!

Personally, I think it's ludicrous what's happening with social media and employers. But it seems to have become standard practice by many a company to check out the social media presence of prospective employees. They're not just checking out someones LinkedIn profile now. They're also looking at their Facebook at Twitter pages, too. And in some cases these employers are demanding that their employees provide them with their usernames and passwords to their social media accounts as part of their employment agreement. That certainly seems to be quelling some of the Internet Outrage since such Big Brother style oversight is driving some people away from expressing their true feelings on topics for fear of losing their jobs.

Because I'm smarter than everyone else, my opinion is not an opinion - it is fact. It is outrageous that anybody disagrees with me. I use nitro in gasoline and wear poly. Tubes are something you find in a hospital, and I keep solid state in the freezer to cool my drinks. Now agree with me or I'm going to have to get very, very angry.
