Why is Talkbass so.... nice?

The mods and many people of this site actually care to keep it clean and helpful. I have been to many forums where it was basically a "free-for-all" and it was pretty much terrible.

I've rarely visited other forum sites but most of the sites I have visited are just appalling in their lack of civility. All too often it's like reading the worst types of YouTube comments and it just makes me shake my head in horror and disbelief. The only good thing about visiting such forums, for me, is that it makes me that much more aware of how well Talkbass is maintained.

The only other commentariat I commonly take part in is CurbsideClassic.com. A great global community reveling in all things (mostly older) automotive. It too is run by a Paul (with help from a few others) and they have a rather strict anti-trolling/name calling/political bickering policy that has done wonders in keeping the forum very friendly and engaging. The similar rules TB uses do wonders here. Also banning @slobake was a great step in keeping the peace

I use to go to my office everyday and had social interaction with my coworkers. Now, I work a lot from home via remote desktop so I depend on TB for daily social interaction. I really like it here. There are so many good people on TB. Rock on.

It's very simple. Anyone who's naughty here, gets a visit from Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light, and Ruler of Heck. If someone is very naughty, Phil will Darn them to Heck. The usual punishment is being forced to spend a few hours in a room full of beginning banjo students... which pretty much eliminates any further naughtiness...

This is an online community - like any other online community. If the moderators weren't active participants and didn't stick to the rules, this online community would be no different than any other online community and would devolve into turmoil with insults and epithets hurled back and forth all day long. We've all seen it on other sites and frankly, I find it repugnant! People that hide behind a keyboard and say things they would NEVER say to someone's face are cowards.

Well, there is also a Dark TalkBass that isn't nearly as nice and friendly as this one here on the top of the internet.
The Deep TalkBass isn't for wimps either, but Dark TalkBass is downright scary.

I remember when Talkbass allowed discusssions on race and politics. All I did was get in fights and get banned. TB banned politics and race, and became a better place. There are thousands of places where we can rip each other to shreds. I enjoy the fact TB focuses on common interests and respect for one another.

That guy got pissed off that the "owner" of the MLS franchise in his home town is preparing to break the hearts of the faithful in order to appease his ego, or something.

He'll be back one day when evil has been defeated and goodness wins the day.
