In my messages, there is an American flag on my avatar in the last message I posted. Can I turn that feature off? I've never seen it before and would like to remove it.

Why is there a flag on my avatar in the messages?

Don't have an answer but I don't see anything on your avatar on my end except the green online icon.
I just saw one in the upper right of my private message. Two new messages today definitely have it. It’s new. I’d like to change it.

I just looked back at some recent messages I had sent and on mine it had white letters in the corner instead saying CA or US instead of the flag. Weird.
For a forum that explicitly prohibits political discussions because they're so immediately divisive, this seems not just out of character, but a "feature" that could become potentially troublesome.

I also received a PM from a Canadian member, his had the Canadian flag.
In my opinion, during these tumultuous political times, we should focus on togetherness instead of our divisions. We’re all people, bassists, full stop. Just my opinion, I love Talkbass.

It sounds like TB is just designating the country of origin of the sender.
Btw. The Murcan' comment from me was because two of us ( and now three of us including me) at the time saw this flag and we were all from the US of A, just for the record.

I'm assuming some people might have reasons why they might not want their location revealed. I don't know if the flag is generated based on IP location or what you set on your profile. I'm not a tech guy though so I don't know anything about that.
You get to ask questions and so do I.
I'd rather not have it as it tends to send a message. Wish I could say what I really think.

Over a flag being superimposed, unsolicited, on top of the images people have chosen to represent themselves on the board. You wouldn't like it if someone walked up to your car - or your bass! - and slapped a sticker onto it without asking. This is basically the same thing. Self-identification is, and should remain, an individual choice.
Identifications with political symbols and emblems - on this board? Completely out of step with stated TB policies.
If it added a text label "IP location: United States" or something like that, I'd be fine with it. But you can spoof IP locations with a VPN anyways. I vote to see this feature removed, if there was a vote.
Lol, I just saw it, recognized it as new, and I didn’t put it there, prefer not to have it if it’s an option.
Its not really the same thing as we dont OWN this site. No idea why its there and dont really care, alot of us, including a couple that responded to my previous post have their location already in their profile. And a country's flag is a political symbol? Its alot over nothing and this will likely be closed as its being turned into something political.
