What about those of us who use light amps and insanely heavy Mesa Boogie Diesel cabs? Where does that put me?

FWIW, I picked the Genz Benz because I loved the sound and the versatility with the tube front end and the SS power.

OH yah... well my Twin Reverb is so awesome it weighs 200 pounds.

Crybaby wimp dude= Woah !!! this thing weighs 120 pounds

Real Man = Yah this feels like 70 pounds to me....

The real problem is the handle. When you lift something heavy with one hand it feels a little worse especially a twin with 2 speakers at 22 pounds a piece

If it had 2 handles and you could distribute the weight it would not seem so bad...instead of tearing into the palm of just one hand...

Thats why smart people use a head and cabinet.....and divide that weight into a 20 pound head and a 40 pound cabinet.

or you can just set it down on the wheels, shut up and push it with no problem.

I love my 35-lbs. GK MB115, and I don't care what you call me. Oh, and yep, I'm looking at a cart for it. Think I'm a wimp? Great. Never met you, never will, don't care.

Here's the thing- Do I want an SVT/810 stack? Oh yeah I do!! Do I want back surgery? No. Do I want a Ford E-350 van to cart said stack around? Nope. What's it to you if I have a 35-lbs. amp? I don't need an 80-lbs. tube amp on top of a 165-lbs. 8x10 speaker cabinet. I need good tone in a lightweight, convenient package. I didn't buy this combo amp just because of the size; I bought it because I genuinely enjoy the tone.

Why don't people just let others play what they want? I am sick and tired of threads asking "why do people play this?" or "why do people play that?". Does it honestly flipping matter? No! My gear is what I like and what I want, end of story. You want a 245-lbs. all-tube stack? Great. Power to you. I am perfectly happy wheeling my 35-lbs. combo amp on a cart.

for sure, if it sounds great to you, then that is what matters, my point was that the "it only weighs 3 lbs" is a silly thing to emphasize.
BTW, the 4x12 neo cabs I use weigh 99 lbs. each and my back doesn't want to lift them anymore but I am well 'seasoned', so to speak.
42 lb. head is pretty heavy for a non- tube power section. These guys are talking about 1/10th that weight ! :-)

That said, it seems like guitar players are now less wimpy than bass players, heaven forbid! :)
Ya know a Twin Reverb weighs about 100 lbs. If a guitar player is willing to make the effort for a good sound, why don't bass players do that anymore?
I had a drummer come in for a club gig with a very small, light kit that sounded small and light. Never hired him again.
I say bring an amp that sounds great and put some backbone into it, for cryin' out loud! Life's too short for wimpy sound.

I have to agree! Too many Lazy people these days. :rollno:

I just purchased a Yamaha power amp and an SWR Grand Pre and all going into a Gator rack bag
w/ conditioner. Can you say 60 pounds??

Big deal. I like to keep my muscles pumped!

If you can't lift your head, then how do you lift your speaker cabs?

If you have an answer for that... why not do the same for a heavy amp that sounds great?

I have owned one or more class D amps from every major company and I have come to the
conclusion it's just not worth it. If you're going to be lazy and have to play through a
transistor radio... I say, STAY home and let the BIG boys play the music!~ :D

I bought light weight amps becase they are available and many are great: Markbass, Genz Benz , Aguilar etc. If tomorrow, Fender , Sadowsky, Lakland etc. start offering 1 pound basses and they sound great I will buy one in a second.

yes, the amp gets less important the bigger the stage gets.
I still like to hear it even last night in Tenerife Heineken Sun Festival with Kenny and Michael Bolton. Outdoor gig with huge PA and all that.
I'm speaking to the guys playing club gigs like I did for many years where the amp is 'all important'. You really 'need' a solid amp for that.

i have never met a monitor that can come even close to the sound of my rig. name the top pa companies in the country, i had em all. someday if you play a big gig on a big stage with no walls close by, you will realise why we have this stuff. i guess a drummer doesnt need for 15" woofers and horns, but it makes playing so much more fun when you can hear every nuance. johnny a. staind

not in the least; this is real- life top end audio. When you go to a concert and you say,
'damn, that sounded fantastic', well there you go. That's what the real touring companies use. 2,000 (real) watts per cone and they don't blow. My floor wedges have over 4,000 watts each and man, do they sound great! Weigh around 300 lbs. Glad I don't have to (try to) move them:hyper:

absolutely great point, that's what a good dolly with large rubber tires is for. I've done hundreds of gigs like that and I like it to be as easy as possible.

some of us have lifted the heavy stuff for twenty plus years or so! I play a LMII through a 75 lbs 212 cab and get help moving it at the gig. Working smarter has a lot to do it also and I would be dumb not to consider the wear and tear the past twenty years has had on this 50 year old body, but there's no way in hell the LMII would be around if it did not sound good to me!
