Why, oh why? (Pedalboard overkill content)

If it's worth doing, it's worth over doing! That board looks like endless hours of fun.

And I have no idea of the interpersonal dynamics of the band, but I encourage throwing the bass player a bone. The singer and guitar player kinda naturally get showcased IME, while sometimes the bassist and drummer maybe not so much. But good drummer and bassist (and I'm not a good one) are worth keeping happy, so if that means giving up some floor space for a kickass pedalboard, seems worth it to me.

My only concern would be footprint on stage with that large of a group. But, you don't rock that board without asking the right questions first. So, I doubt it was a surprise to anyone on stage. With an 8 piece band, excess is often success.

So, this is where I usually respond with, "Even if all of that is true, you're still watching him and not the other way around."

Dude shows up at a gig last night in a relatively small club with quite a small stage for a 8-piece band and THIS is the pedalboard he lays down and hooks up:



Mind you, this was a for an early gig (7:30 to 10:30pm) with a 1980s cover band. His board and amp alone took up about a fifth of the overall stage. The drummer had a smaller footprint!

All I can say is, why? Even if you're an effects maven, would you show up with such a ridiculous rig, bragging about the fact that it lights up, when you probably wouldn't use more than two of the pedals on the board?

This band included three female singers, a singing sax player, a singing keyboard player, a singing drummer, a singing guitar player, in addition to the non-singing bass player.

I was just flabbergasted. I mean, really, WT... you know the rest!

(I do wish I had the guy's money, though -- That board must have cost more than my car!)

I'll agree with you as well, just so you don't get lonely. It is absurd. But less absurd than our guitarist dragging a Marshall half stack to a coffee house gig. The four or five customers eyed it apprehensively and then left. My bass, for complex and totally valid reasons I won't go into, was going through a Roland JC120 combo.

I look at pedals as color for the raw sound. One can play in black and white and that's fine. Others might like subtle shades of grey. And then there's folks that like to plaster their canvas with bold, loud colors.....like me, and obviously Mr. Bonesy85

That’s funny... I brought my board on an outdoor gig this weekend even if I only needed the tuner and the sansamp. It was easier to bring the whole kit instead of finding power supplies and disconnect everything. Plus, I had the chance to use the C4 (why not?!!!)

My guitar player has a board at least this large (less pedals, more switching and routing options), and we are a simple pop band. In some smaller venues it takes up a lot of room, BUT, he sounds good, he's happy, the crowd is happy, we are all happy.

I saw a guy bring something similar in size but longer.The board was inside this huge metal case and a band member helped him carry it.During the show I just heard a bit of chorus effect

What a sweet board!! Great taste in pedals, and obviously beautifully assembled.

I used to rock a PT Pro. It was fun and I never used the same envelope sound twice during a gig.

But I did start to tire of it taking up so much floor space, and it was heavy.

I reduced down to a Metro 22 and it feels like I hit a sweet spot with that. But my PT Pro was also no where as cool as that board. If I had that board I would use it.

I can totally see where the OP is coming from. An 8 piece band on a small stage Is a challenge to set up and have room to play/move. I'm torn between thinking that it is large enough to be intrusive, and drooling over that badass setup.
Wrong forum probably, complaining about too many effects in the "Effects" forum.

Hopefull the pitchforks will be put away in light of it being Sunday morning, and people having a more charitable spirit.
