Why Text every freakin' time to ask "Is practice still on for tonight?"

Heh. I'm not that far behind, but neither do I delude myself that I'm going to have a decent-level professional career in music once I finally retire from my businesses.
Edit: I just did a gig about 2 weeks ago with a gu!+@&!$+ who's 80yo, and is not only a great/versatile player, but who also has a vast knowledge of all aspects of the professional popular music industry of the 50's through the 2000's including recording, mixing and session work.
He's one of the few people whom I'd consider being more than a hired gun for. In fact, he's asked about my interest. Just waiting for the situation to develop.

I keep telling my coworkers and admin staff this very thing.
No lie, the people coming over here tonight will be here at 6:30, except for one person who we all know can't get here until sometime after 7. What will happen is that someone will bring wine, someone else will open it, and we'll all just hang out and shoot the breeze for the better part of an hour until she shows up. Why they can't just set the time for 7 is beyond me, but I like hanging with these guys, so it's ok.
I read "gig"... I think music is involved. My bad.
I guess I can say I do that too, but with rescues. I don't take any money, my reward is having them in my house all day and all night.
I don't take in dogs to petsit; my dogs would never allow it. I go to stay in other people's homes. I semi-retired from all that because it's rough being away from my own home but I still do the occasional job for friends. Got one coming up starting tomorrow, caring for a dog, some fish, and a parrot.
It actually is not.
After texting earlier in the week about what songs he wanted to work on he texted about 4:20 on practice day to say he had had a bad day and can we postpone till tomorrow night. Another member can't tomorrow night so another week of rehearsal is missed. At this point the new band has missed more practice night that we have made.
And yes, it's the same guy who usually texts "is practice still on?"
It always is. Did you try responding, "Sorry, I asked and the others can't make it tomorrow; I'll bet if you ask 'em, they prolly had bad days too. See ya tonight, podnuh"

In some cases this would be true, but she is a retired teacher with a roster of students she tutors after school, so her lateness is a firm scheduling issue, not actually being late. She's arriving at the time she said she could get there. They know she can't make it until 7, but everyone comes at 6:30 anyway.
Unbelievable yet believable. Seriously, you might want to consider holding yourself to a higher standard and playing with grownups.
The short answer to today's inappropriate question would be, "No. Practice is scheduled for tonight, when everyone else has carved out the time. See you then."
Seriously, we all have bad days. It's called life. You deal with the curve balls and don't make 'em into a pain in everyone else's butts.
And the answer to "Is practice still on?" is the same answer as "Is the gig still on?" - I'll give you one, then I won't repeat it again. Ever. "In the highly unlikely event you hear otherwise, practice is always 'still on'; There's no need to ask, so don't. See you then."
Dadgumit, now I don't even know which thread I am in at any given time.
BL is aggressively pushing for two weeknight practices per month. I'm married with teen children, he's not. Spoke with the drummer yesterday about BLs musical meltdown right in front of our ears these past three months...
He hasn't been the same since his divorce. 30-50 women on Tinder and now he's practically married again. As bad as his marriage was he was way more stable with a no-show wife...
