Why Text every freakin' time to ask "Is practice still on for tonight?"

OTOH why can't it just be known that we practice every Thursday, or whatever, and everyone be adult enough to show up, OR, if they have a last minute conflict or emergency, let the other band members know ASAP?

This thread is awesome and a vital public service. You really should put this stuff up front in the band member wanted ad. It's helpful info.

No old people. No tennis shoes. No blues wannabes. No texts before rehearsal. Serious committed people who still dream of chasing the car of fame only.

There ARE a lot of things I enjoy about the band. I can't see how that would make an interesting thread, though.


Gas is still going down. Under $3 a gallon here.


A former bandmate (RIP) had a "come to Jesus" moment with the band we were in together a decade ago. His opinion was that a band should be just as important to a band member as the other things in his life and a commitment to a band and to band rehearsals should be important. He had, in my opinion, a valid point.

Well, yes, a three hour drive each way would be worth a text regarding rehearsals. SIDEBAR: I really can't imagine being in a band that required rehearsals three hours away. Must be a really good band?


Emergencies can happen. However, a mid-afternoon text wouldn't anticipate an emergency 30 minutes before practice.


What WOULD you call it when one person texts EVERY WEEK "is practice still on?"


Different band, and different situations, and that band is technically on "hiatus" but likely over.


As I stated above, a mid-afternoon text "are we still practicing?" wouldn't prevent a last minute cancellation or no-show from happening.

Maybe I'll pull a fast one text time and text the day BEFORE practice "are we still on for tomorrow night?" and see what happens.


In this case, no.


Not the same. This is a side issue to the thread subject, but, what I would refer to is someone for whom absolutely ANYTHING takes precedence over rehearsal. Last minute his girlfriend wants to go out to dinner...decides to go fishing...a lot of things to do around the house, etc.

Good for you. Gas reached $2.80 9/10 in my area back in August, but has increased to $3.25 -$3.50 range since then. Went up $0.30 overnight last week….

Guessing the person has been burned in the past or is looking for an out from practice session. Some bands have various combinations with members communicating in separate threads. A change could be made to a rehearsal and not everyone gets the update. If you have a demanding full time day job and family, it blows to load up an upright bass, amp, gear and drive to out to a cancelled rehearsal. I love gigging and show up prepared.... not sad if rehearsals are occasionally canceled.

Oh, I was on the email, but there was no text chain.

Anyone who wasn't checking their email could be SOL. Thankfully the guitarist noticed I hadn't weighed in, and texted me just in case. Solid guy.
