Why the bass guitar?

Steve Harris. Iron Maiden. Run To The Hills. After hearing that bassline I just had to play bass.

The bass just spoke to me. I love how it looks, how it sounds and it's just me. I dabble with guitar and drums and keyboards (not very well), but I'M A BASSIST!!

Good luck. Why not just rent a bass and amp and give it a test run for a month? That way you won't be out of a lot of cash if it's not you.

Plain and simple. Everyone was playing a guitar at the time. They were going to need a bassist soon.

IMO bass is more creative. With guitar theres just lead and rhythm and u either pick, flamenco classical style or some tapping... and thats it. bass sounds freakin cool, looks freakin cool, u can finger it, slap it, pick it, tap it, etc... the tone varieties and different styles of instruments (ie fretless) just let you do sooo much more with a bass then what u could ever do. bassists are usually really cool cats too, always friendly and team spirited sort of (we stick together, like this site). im sure theres more things i want to say but cant remember them now

it's just different

it can't be drowned out unless your audience has lost all feeling in their bodies

when a guitar plays from across the room people don't turn around becuase they can hear them. when a bass player plays from across the room they turn around because they can feel the ground beneath their feet shaking... (i've actually tried this and it's frickin hilarious)

*edit* and because you can finger minors in public *chortle* i meant that musically...
