Why the hate?

LOL.
I totally agree - talk about something people either love or hate - GRAPEFRUIT
I have a theory (no scientific support) that the bitter flavour in Grapefruit is like phenylthiourea in that I think some people can taste it and some people can't.

For those of you who forget grade 9 science class - that was the little paper strips that you lick and about half the class tastes nothing and the other half tastes pure unadulterated evil. It's a genetic thing - you can either taste it (me) or you are can't (lucky).

There's something similar with cilantro. I read this article that links it to genetics. I personally love it and can't have enough of it. My wife hurls just thinking about it... So I named my band after it :)

I've usually read/heard soap - and I totally get that, there IS a soapy taste to it, but I still LOVE it, can't get enough really. Used to grow it in my garden and when in season I'd put it on/in everything I could think of.

Very interesting - essentially a more Mexican mojito (which I also like).
YUM!

Yeah. As I mentioned, my band is called Cilantro Boombox. Our guitar player opened a little bottle during a show and shot it before anybody could get a taste of it! I still gotta try it... On an unrelated note, I did have a pineapple basil mojito once I still dream about.

I love grapefruit. It's shape fits my hands and it's not too heavy, plus you can't mistake the taste. Cuts through the mix. You know, James Jamerson used to mix his grapefruit with vodka.

About the only thing I share with the master, the Greyhound, or vodka grapefruit, being my long drink of choice since decades.

It's uncanny how sweet it tastes mixed with vodka, completely different to when served on it's own, and also for some reason seemingly much less acidic in the gut.
