Arguing is great. Whining about the same sh!t over and over again, is just dumb
I got to get a picture of the first bass I built. I painted Bill playing his tongue as Billy from Billy and the Boingers.
Jaco had other Basses that weren't Fender but this one had such a great story that many of the pics are him with his BOD. He helped with its mythology and it has taken on a life of its own.
Running to another thread to complain about your supposed mistreatment by another member is called what?
I didn't look for you here, but couldn't miss your remarks and your interesting perspective on how things went down.
For the record I never called you a Fender hater, I was never aggressive, didn't flip, and you have admitted to trolling in that thread, so live with it.

Honestly, in these days of everyone yearning to be offended, I find mtself quite often to be a man without an island. I have strong opinions about a lot of topics. When they come up on forums I "voice" them without apologies. These days, that is often translated as hatred for anyone with opposing opinions. That simply isn't true. I have had many spirited debates here and in person. I have never left those debates feeling hatred for anyone on "tthe other side". Probably nobody here dissagrees with me more on a regular basis than @Unrepresented. But I truly believe he is a thoughtful and intelligent person who simply holds a different set of values from my own.
Where the "middle aged angry guy" misnomer comes to play is that when we were growing up having strong opinions wasn't seen as bad thing. It was simply seen as holding firm to one's values. Today if one uses very "black and white" language to describe how one feels, the rest of the crowd involed assumes that the person voicing those opinions hates everyone else.
In short, people of the younger generations are way too easily offended. In fact I would argue that many of them wander the Earth looking for thing s to be offended by. No offense.

I'm sorry if you feel I am harassing you. You made some claims about what was obviously me and I defended myself. I did not 'follow' you anywhere and I have no interest in you personally one way or another, nor do I care to report you for trolling in spite of your boasting of it.

Again, not about expressing strong opinions against something in particular and debating and even arguing. I'm pointing out the constant need of many to just bash to bash... Any GC or Fender thread (just to name a few) inevitably turns into a hate and defend bicker. Is not about being "offended"... That word gets thrown around way too much as well and I'm not sure it is about age. I'm 31 so I guess not quite middle age yet but grew up in a rough place where getting easily offended would just cripple you.

Lots of useful info but for eff's sake! Weeding out through all the blah blah I hate GC, blah blah Fender sucks is annoying. Don't like it, don't put your money in it.

What I love is how so many of the haters chime in and say "YEAH, I agree, I just state an opinion and have a discussion" after having posted things like "<select instrument> is <select highly disrespectful insult>" in a previously civil discussion.
The thread that prompted this thread started out fine, but quickly became a "hatefender" thread.
I give posters the benefit of the doubt when they state opinions like the OP did in that one and respectfully answer their questions about why Fenders are good or popular or whatever and that it is indeed valid to not love them, as that is what choice is about - because not all posters are trolls looking for trouble - most are newbies looking to learn.
But as soon as someone answers the question "what is good about..." with an explanation about what is good, some douche has to declare their hatred for the thing. They - often interpret the bile they experience as people being touchy about their precious Fenders or whatever (it is usually Fenders) when often it is members getting annoyed with trolls jumping in where they are not wanted or needed and where their opinions are invalid.
You want to carefully and respectfully explain why your modern basses of choice are better than a Fender - go for it - comparing anyone's choice to a crippled farm-animal is not respectful or funny and does not demonstrate the ignorance of the person you pissed off - it demonstrates your own.
I'm sure the individual I am referring to is reading this so I hope they get the message that this is not cool. If you want to insult things there are threads dedicated to getting this out of your system. If you have a relevant and helpful opinion, count to 10 and consider how you are wording it and then edit before you press post - take out any insults and unnecessarily negative comments and then feel free to join the conversation.

But when it comes to things sold to CREATE music (eg, amps, cabs, basses, guitars, etc.) SUBJECTIVE opinions rule (though there are objective concerns as well).
So I can HATE P basses, but another player can love them. And if his love of his P bass makes him enjoy playing more and do a better job, musically, his opinion is correct and mine is not supportable - for his situation.

Right - you can personally hate anything you want - this is the internet. However, as you say, your opinion is invalid if it is entirely taste and the discussion is about what is good or bad about something.
Unfortunately, many people think that if they don't like something that is a valid reason to put them down and the people who like them.
Now that I've said that, I think I'll go over to the ice cream forums and insult all the people that like spumoni - 'cause they are idiots for liking the worst flavour ever that tastes like <insert unpleasant excretion or bodypart here> and are probably not even good at eating ice cream if they eat something so out of date and old-fashioned.

I apologize. I don't know who you are. Clearly I pissed you off at some point. I did throw a fit (for which I am not proud) and leave briefly. I was upset because name calling got me temporarily banned. I got over it and the powers that be graciously allowed me to come back after I sat in the corner and sucked my thumb for a bit. It had nothing to do with whether or not anyone cared about my opinions. I'm not sure why you are suddenly obsessed with me or what I did to get your panties in a wad because I don't recall ever having had an e-conversation with you.
So, to clarify for those with reading comprehension problems......
I and others will sometimes offer strong opinions. As is the case here some people misread a firm opinion as one's being a know it all or just a jerk. I don't always put "in my view" or "in my opinion" in mt posts. So what. It is an opinion forum. What I say being my opinion should go without saying. I could name several others here who simply lay out what they think in bold colors and are often seen as jerks for it. I won't drag them into whatever mission you are on here. They would probably care about as much as I do anyway.
