Why the hate?

haters looking for somebody hate. This forum is full of em, and has a reputation in other bass forums as such. There are some great folks on here, but also those pretentious snobs that hijack posts, are rude & condescending and keep good people from contributing for fear of being power trolled. Rule #1 gets forgotten/ignored way too often.

To answer your titular question: Lots of middle-aged guys on TB, and a lot of middle-aged guys are rage-filled. Forums such as TB provide some release.

Seriously, Talkbass is one of the best ways to get through a boring day at work. Sure, there are some peculiar personalities and some disagreements. But, guess what? That's life.

Lots of useful info but for eff's sake! Weeding out through all the blah blah I hate GC, blah blah Fender sucks is annoying. Don't like it, don't put your money in it.

You missed one- Hate for people who post solo videos on FB playing a 6 string bass playing a cover of a song, that sounds EXACTLY like a jazz guitar comping through the chords. Because they aren't playing ANY BASS notes- just high register chords and tapping.

That's just dandy, but just get a GUITAR if that is what you want to do.

There are posts that can offend but dealing with individuals on the site has always been positive. I've learned tons and people have helped me through band and playing issues when I've been totally confused.

The gc stuff makes me laugh. I was just there to get a bass for my son and I was thinking "what line can I slap??" Haha. But one of my best playing basses came from there too.....and it's a fender!

Different strokes for different folks but I learn a lot from them! I want my ideas to be challenged because that's how I learn.

I think it's time for the Forum owners to seriously consider a separate section for the divisive and 'beaten-to-death' threads. Keep them away from the rest of us. Kind of like the little kids table at Thanksgiving dinner. Anybody that wants to go and whine about big bad Fender, or brag that their Squier kills someone else's Fodera, or cry about why something costs so much (and is it worth it) can go there and post ad nauseum.

My VM Super-Modded Squier killed a Fodera- took it out in the street and beat it to death. It was hard to watch, like something off that new Vikings show when they are pillaging. Was it worth it? ;-)

When I found talkbass at the tender age of 18 by literally googling how to get better at bass those beat again and again threads helped a lot! Now I still play fenders into a mixed driver rig, but just having a community of fellow gearheads to hash it out with has really helped! Did I say gearheads? I meant volunteer business analysts, backseat luthiers, officers of mixed driver law, headstock connoisseurs, grouchy old farts, grouchy young farts, and lets not forget all the GAS enablers!! One mans beat to death horse is still someone's first time seeing a horse i guess is what I'm getting at
