Will Ampeg ever make a Micro?

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this, but given the gush of micro Class D's out there, does anyone think or know of Ampeg putting out a Micro Class D in the foreseeable future? I know the PF series are small but I'm talking Markbass Nano, Gallien Krueger MB500, you know--5 pounds and 8 x 11 - ish....

What say ye TB'ers?

I agree with you fundamentally but sorry to say seems more like an issue with Ampeg and Class D's instead of all class D amp manufacturers.

Hello mmbongo... I respectfully submit that this is larger and much heavier than the "micro" sized Class D's I was referring to.

It's size and weight as follows:

Height 3"
Width 15"
Depth 11"
Weight 11.8 lbs.
Manufacturer Part Number PF800

I would love to see Ampeg come out with a "nano sized" amp sometime in the near future. Who knows--they might be working on one as we speak...

My MB 500 head can fit in my bass gig bag's external pocket. And it's very loud and toneful. But I would still like to add the Ampeg flavor to my arsenal. The same reason we don't carry around 15 pound laptops like we did in the 90's. Smaller, lighter, more powerful is the future. I'd bet a dollar Ampeg is working on something along those lines.

And... the same reason you and I buy AudioKinesis. :)

Well they ARE small :D

I see no problem myself with what Ampeg does with their micros. They have a good look and they don't stuff them into the same project boxes that everyone else uses. They're a little larger than average, but they're also less expensive and look cooler than most. I'll take that any day over tiny and bland.

Well, I bought, quite literally, the largest cab Duke makes so I'm not sure I qualify there :D.

I can see what you say, but it still doesn't jive with my world view haha :D. I run a rack setup and pretty much always have. So if the head is 8x11 it doesn't matter, as it'll still take up 1 or 2U in a rack. I guess if I just carried a bass in a gig bag in one hand, and a cab in the other, I could maybe see it. If I were going down that route though, I'd rather just have a powered cab and some sort of outboard processing (Fractal AX8, SansAmp BDDI, Sadowsky pre, B7K etc. etc) and run that straight into the cab.

But you also bought the lightest most optimized 18" cab on the market. Best performance for size/weight.

On the point of using a rack system, I can see how you don't have any interest in a micro. I still like the idea of putting my amp in the same bag as my bass gig bag. And I want it to be powerful and versatile.
