So an 11lb head is too much? You could use a preamp pedal (Ampeg DI, Sansamp, VT, etc.) plugged in to your tiny amp. Those all sounds fantastic and should fit in a gig bag.

Will Ampeg ever make a Micro?

Agreed. Did class D and a boutique cab for a couple of years, sold both for an Ampeg and pair of matching 410's.
When I was young amps weighed 100lbs, cabs 150, and basses were strung with razor wire. We all had scoliosis, and nobody had fingerprints. That's the way it was AND WE LIKED IT!
And we had to fit everything on a moped!
I had one of those little tiny heads; the weight of the speaker cable was enough to pull it off the top of the speaker.
If they could cram the PF800 into a tiny box, that would be great. If they don't, then I'll still probably buy one anyway in the near future. But if they make it more streamlined, they'd sell even more of them I'd wager. I get the portaflex-fliptop nostalgia, but I'd prefer the throw-it-in-the-gigbag approach.
I'd REALLY like them to cram the V4B into a smaller package, like the Mesa Prodigy. The classic look is cool, but I don't want to go back to carrying a head made out of plywood.

They are definitely class D. Also, I personally love mine, though plenty have reported problems with theirs, but I have yet to. They're a bit big to be micro, but IMO they're definitely light enough and small enough for most.
edit: I'm an idiot and didn't notice that the OP mentioned the PF series. Yeah, they're not micro sized, but it's close enough for me. my 500 fits in my laptop bag though, so I can still one-trip carry if I wanted to.

Yeah, seriously. I didn't get it. I haven't seen anyone use one at gigs up this way yet, and even the "carry it in a gigbag" benefit doesn't make a ton of sense *to me*. Most folks are carrying a ~9 or so pound bass, a 30-40 pound cab (or an IEM setup), and a head. Maybe if I werre riding trains to gigs or something? But, that is just me, and there is obviously a substantial market want for them, otherwise so many companies would've have jumped in on it.
I'm not advocating one way or the other, just trying to get it. Here is what I've heard so far as the benefits (neither of which I "knew" before asking in this thread, for what it is worth):
1) Even smaller than already small heads - it'll fit in a lot of gig bag pockets (which, I guess people put amps in gig bags - that's news to me)
2) Even lighter than already light heads - I suppose this makes the gig bag weigh less when you stuff a head into it
I'm sure for some folks those are huge benefits. I just haven't actually seen someone benefiting from it in person or here on talkbass.
I was going to say the same thing. And then with one of those little baby amps, when you go to plug it in you shove it off the back of your cabinet because it's not heavy enough to stay in place.
I personally don't have any difficulty lifting my 11 pound amp. I don't care if it doesn't fit in my gigbag, as my 6x10 cabinet does not fit in my gigbag either.
Amazing how many excuses and reasons people will use to be resistant to change. I believe in the near future Ampeg will have one out.
I think they're waiting to see how the other Class D micros are doing. Maybe R&D and cost/profit analysis needs to happen first.

Less of a pain to haul around. I'll bet our older TB guys appreciate a smaller haul.

47" flat screen tv's that weigh 20 pounds and are high def.
Cell phones that weigh ounces and last 12 hours on a charge. Some for days on a charge.
Cars that get 50 mpg.
Laptops that weigh 3 pounds with the computing power of a mainframe 30 years ago.
The Boeing Dreamliner 777 that uses half the fuel of its predecessors and a better design as well as safer.
I appreciate your thought but technical advances benefit everyone. One day a kid will look at a huge amp and think, "I wouldn't drag that boat anchor around." Sounds blasphemous, I know, but the future is about smaller, more advanced, lighter, more powerful. Already we're seeing the swing in bass amps. Look through the classifieds and see how many large amps and cabs are for sale.

I definitely won't complain about lighter, I was more struggling with the benefit of smaller. I get it now though - some people carry everything in their gig bags and want amps to fit in there. Cool. I'm not sure I'll ever use that kind of setup, but who knows what amps will look like in another 30 years.
