Will see Jack Casady live!

Hi,

This is only an anecdote. A cool moment in my life. And it's related to bass, so I thought I'd share with people who could understand that part of it. :)

So I'm a Hot Tuna/Jefferson Airplane fan since I was 15. I especially like Jack Casady, needless to say.
I inherited my taste for music, and for bass, and for Casady from my father. It was his birthday recently. He turned 70-something: I don't care to count. Through the decades, the old guy and I have always shared a bond through music. Even if at times we wouldn't talk to each other, our shared tastes for music were never compromised.

So anyways. It was his birthday and I was searching what to offer as a little present. And I was thinking that it should mean something special, on account that time flies sometimes really too fast. So I thought: "Fluke it, let's drive together to a Hot Tuna show!"

This may seem non-extraordinary to many of you. But if you live in Montreal, Hot Tuna doesn't often come play in a nearby venue. The closest they'll come this year is a small town in Maine. And it's a 5 hour drive from here. This if all goes well at the border and we aren't welcomed by an overzealous pro-Trump officer...

In any case, we decided to gun it. :) As my dad replied when I suggested the idea: "I'm not getting any younger and neither are they"
There might be a bit of shared nostalgia. And a lot of music listening in the car. :)

I hope I get to shake Casady's hand. Maybe tell him: "These fingers have given me so much pleasure"... (Or maybe not. o_O )

I especially hope that my father and I get to share a moment of pure live musical bliss together once more, so that we can re-share and re-live it later. I know we will...
It's Casady and Hot Tuna!

Sounds like a great time. You might edit your introductory statement to Jack but, otherwise, great time.
Yeah, you might now want to open with that. And try not to drool on him.

Just tell him what you told us: that you and your dad did a 5-hour road trip to see the show together. It's a great story!

If you haven't already, get yourself a copy of his instructional video, The Bass Guitar of Jack Casady, and watch it with your dad. He'll enjoy the hell out of it even if he isn't a musician, and you'll learn a ton. Jorma is with him throughout, and they play a handful of songs (worth the price just for this!) -- after each of which Jack goes back through the song and explains/demonstrates what he was doing, and why, in each section of the tune. Sometimes Jorma chimes in to help out, often to comic effect. (It turns out Jack has a wickedly dry sense of humor.) It's like a Hot Tuna mini-set, shot close-up, plus a terrific instructional video all in one.

Here's a short clip: The quality is terrible, but you'll get the idea....
