It's not a new thing. People have been boycotting stuff they don't like and turning their backs on people they don't like for longer than I've been alive; there was a long list of people my mom didn't want to hear about because of stupid things they'd done. It's just that someone created a buzzword to make having an opinion and acting like you have one seem like a negative thing.

.That doesn't negate the rest of the statement. Anyone else would have been hauled off by security, removed from the premises and banned from future entry, at the very least. Anyone else would also have been charged at the discretion of the person who was assaulted.

I'll grant that it's easier for people to get worked up over stuff and organized with social media now, but that didn't prevent people from organizing boycotts in the past. They just used less sophisticated methods of getting the word out.
Agreed but I was really referring to Social media being the Driving force along with "Cancel Culture".
But, thinking about it, Social media has been here for a long time too. So yes I stand corrected.

I'm not out to intentionally boycott his work, but I would have skipped buying I am Legend recently if this had happened first, & I feel better about skipping the M.I.B. franchise now.

For Oscar-worthy roles, I'm sure he won't be considered. For action shoot'em ups or comedy, we'll see. With the attention span of the American public, will his box office draw take a huge hit a year or two from now?
To be clear, he's still eligible to win an Oscar. He's just banned from attending the ceremony.

I wonder if in 10 years his action will still be seen with the same scrutiny as it is right now.
