Willie Weeks with Billy Preston and Jeff Beck

When exactly was this?
Yep, 1975 right before school let out…it’s right there on the video thumbnail. Beck had just released Blow By Blow which rejuvenated his career, and was his move toward the funk/fusion realm as well as leaving behind working with vocalists full time. Max Middleton was his crucial support, and they were in promotional mode, gearing up for a summer tour(with Bernard Purdie and Wilber Bascomb in the rhythm section). Labelle, Rufus, and Billy were all riding high on the charts at the time, with Preston and his drummer/percussionist Ollie Brown were just about to go on tour augmenting the Rolling Stones.

Max Middleton has always been my favorite foil for Beck.

I finally saw Max years after the Beck era with Mick Taylor @ Club Mere Bulles in Nashville. Great show. Caught Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown there as well.

Fantastic bass player with Savoy who also toured with Robin Trower but his name escapes me. They were booking great acts in the restaurant/club’s heyday.
