Windows 10 - Whether You want it or not...

We installed it, and every computer in the store stopped printing.

It is a well known issue with Windows 10 that Microsoft has apparently not owned up to yet, and there are no fixes that I know of.

Your print spooler shuts off and has to be restated manually every time you go to print something.

We just leave the Task Manager open to Services, and manually switch on the spooler every time we want to print something.

I don't even know whey they bother with Beta testing, as their finished products are universally crap right out of the gate, every time.

Windows 10 will run flawlessly within a few weeks of Microsoft introducing their next crappy OS; then they won't support 10 anymore....

I installed Windows 10 at 1 AM this morning, and it's been nothing but trouble all day long. Firefox hasn't worked right all day long, the interface is almost unnavigable, and God knows what else has happened to my laptop that I'm not even aware of yet. I've got a month to switch back to Windows 7, and I might do it much sooner than that. Windows 10 is a dog, and as far as I'm concerned Microsoft blew it.

No serious problems with my two Win 10 machines still, one Lenovo Twist laptop (RTM upgrade) and one VM (insider preview upgrade).
My Logitech webcam stopped working after the upgrade, but it was old and Logitech did not provide a driver.
A couple Lenovo devices onboard started acting up, but once Lenovo provided a driver update, those issues went away.

For me Win10 has worked out great - no problems, no crashes, going on 10 months now. I removed Cortana, Edge, Media Player, OneDrive and all the various apps Microsoft wants to foist on you, so it's rather stripped down. Also blocked the "telemetry" stuff and a whole bunch of unnecessary server addresses (looped back to local in the 'hosts' file). Nothing is automatically updated.

My intended yet un-intended switch worked just fine. Bought a new SSD, put an image of the "old" Win7 SSD on the new one, started the upgrade on the new SSD, but it didn't work out the way I planned it and it overwrote my Win7 SSD...I wasn't aware I could switch back haha

Anyhow, it works fine for my desktop PC. Just make sure, should you stay with it, that you de-activate as many Microsoft "features" on Windows10, because they spy the heck out of you. And this is what upsets me really.

I installed 10 thinking anything was an improvement on 8. Unfortunately I then spent 2 days trying to get Ableton to work, so was left with the choice of going back to 8 or spending £s on Ableton upgrades. Windows 8 it is.

Said what? "We're going to install Windows 10 on your computer whether you want it or not?" Must of missed that e-mail. I understand the desire to upgrade operating systems (and I use "upgrade" with more than a little sarcasm; it seems to be just Microsoft-speak for "We want more of your money", IME), and I understand that people like and "need"new features. I don't - for what I use a computer for, Windows XP was the nicest OS I've ever used. But, I'm not everybody, and I'll admit that one OS for all your doo-dads might be a nice idea - if I had a lot of doo-dads. My problem with Win 10 was that they installed it without my asking them to, and it made a fairly specialized computer mostly useless. I would have gotten over the massive outrage of the former - maybe, eventually - but the latter? Uh... don't think so. So, I'll stick with Win 7, thank you...:)

My mac notebook is at least 10 years old. (maybe older) I don't think I can put enough memory on it to upgrade anymore. I am getting notices from google that they don't support my OS anymore. It is starting to freeze up when I am online.
I am heading into a season where I need to economize and I know I can get a Windows machine for a lot less than a Mac. But is it worth it? Starting to have doubts after reading through this thread.

Simple. He disabled the intrusive Windows services via the root system master control panel manager, rerouted the host mask's ISP to the win32.exe kernel, deleted unnecessary MBR-lever boot loader command prompts (using the msConfig windsock), de-escalated page file escalations, and, rather obviously, deleted sys32.exe in the Windows folder to make the computer run faster.

Installed Win10 on my home and office Toshiba laptops. My software - Adobe CS, MS Office, Android emulator, custom SQL/ASP software - everything worked great from the start.
I am guessing that most users went trough with this upgrade without issues. Posters in this tread are probably a loud minority with technical problems. o_O

I would seriously consider a Chromebook if I needed a new PC right now. And I consider myself to be extremely tech-savvy.

The people I know who have the hardest time with Windows, are Mac users.

Don't fear. Lots of griping here, but much of it is based in MS's decision to abandon a visual interface which they trained people to use for more than 15 years. I think that was stupid, but for a Mac user switching to Windows 10 it's no problem. 10 has its problems but it's a very livable interface and the OS is smarter than ever. We're changing campus computers to 10 this summer.

But were you forced to upgrade against your will? That's why people are becoming disgusted with Microsoft. Way too much control over your computer.
You won't want win10 after watching this video, you have literally no privacy, Microsoft can access every file on your computer. It's a massive data mining operation.

Ask yourself these questions.

Am I a criminal?

Am I a pedophile?

Am I a terrorist?

Am I an international double-not agent?

Am I a minor that is storing nude pics of myself or girlfriend in my hard drive?

Do I do work on a computer for myself or a company that is stupid enough not to hire IT guys to protect my sensitive trade secrets from corporate espionage?

Etc.

If you answered YES to any of these questions then worry very seriously about the EULA on Windows 10.

If not, nobody gives a crap about mining YOUR data beyond statistical user insight.
