Winter Build off 2018 - Walnut Free For All - Get Ready!

Yup...that was me...trying to fudge walnut % points... rocking the boat. Causing trouble... being annoying. :cautious:
Then came the snarky post just for fun... cause I suppose ...not all artists are fully "matured".:D (wasn't serious)
FWIW...I did subsequently retract & state my complete acquiescence to the rules as set forth. In sincere humility and respect for the contest and its promoter.
Let's play...

Glad you're giving it a go with the 65%. I really enjoy your builds. Who knows maybe stepping outside your personal box will yield a magnificent walnutty epiphany :D Good on ya :bassist:

14 more shopping days till Christmas.

Look what Santa just brought me!

I think I'll be driving down the street named Sammich. More importantly, in a Wallybird!
Next decision - Bolt on or neck Thru

Thanks all!

When I saw it online I said to myself "THAT"S IT!" A little on the pricey side. It looks better live than it did in the pics so I was kinda floored when I opened the package today. I got it at Goby Walnut. They still have more pieces much like the boards I got

Darn, maybe I went too far, sorry.

Oh and a sandwich has to be NT:cool:
I'm in my comfort zone with bolt on, but this build is screaming NT, so that will be the way. I've decided.....for now....

Beautiful @Scoops , you gonna use that for a body core? :D
Actually I was thinking of cutting them into 1 inch strips and glue them back together in random order :D

Template stock :D
Why didn't I think of that?

That's a little more intense than my top that's on the way. Looks like your 'bird is going to be awesome!
The color combo is gong to be pretty nice I'll probably use the board I show in the first pic I posted in this thread for the backbone. I 'm working out the various ways I can cut it as to minimize waste. Unfortunately for that board, the best piece for a backbone is right down the middle, and I'm not going to do that. So combining 2 colors of flamed walnut, along with some paduk stringers, and thin black accents on either side of the paduks, well, we'll see if I can pull it off.

Cheers

Doing a little testing with laminate colors

I'm glad I'm going thru this exercise.

The test sample on the left was suppose to be a thin black trim on either side of the paduk. Doesnt look like that will be an option. The other sample I went to the extreme thickness for the paduk. That's a tad too thick.
Pretty sure I know what my stackup is going to

On a difffernt note, I just found @ctmullins magic sauce

Do you have a finish in mind? The walnut really makes the paduk look orange. I like the sample with the light wood between the two.
