It can be kinda hard to come by reasonably in small quantities. As progenitor of the Whackadoodle part of the contest (I referred to it as the Winter Walnut Whackadoodle Workfest), a wooddorker, and having gone Fat Freddy's Cat nuts on getting this stuff (really, the economics are cray-cray when comparing large amounts to small amounts) I think you folks should be able to follow the Word of Bruce when he mentions using carbon TOW. Assuming I manage to get them to Sugar Creek, that is.

It's 24K, so 4x what Bruce usually uses 4 of (6k) though I guess if you really needed less you might be able to pull it apart (there's lots of creative approaches to doing things with it on model airplane sites, such as spreading it out really wide and thin, but they may not have frequent applications in bass-building.) My analysis of the less comprehensible numbers on the datasheet indicates about 853 lbs (3790 N) tensile loading would be possible for one ribbon of this. [They tell you tensile strength in thousands of pounds per square inch, and they tell you density and yield - which can be cooked to release the square inch cross section, and that gets you back to a tensile strength that normal folks understand.) Bruce has mentioned using between 5 and 20 feet of 6K per build, so ~10m (~33 feet) of 24K seems like enough to do a few builds and repairs.
Edit: 10 rolls in, I have a better understanding of the cray-cray economics. Lack of automated winding machinery = labor! Also, my inquiring mind makes it a hair over half an ounce (tensile strength) per teeny-tiny strand; Or 0.158 N You should unroll it, not spiral it off the end, to maintain the "never twisted" aspect from the spec sheet.
If it's at all unclear - ain't no corporate connection here - this is stuff I bought a lot of which I'm adding some of to the prize pool (along with more labor that I bargained for, and you're welcome) on my own.
