But I have been wondering - do we keep the rules as-is, and instead of removing the .084 rule, do we add another category - "non bass?" Then people can build piccolos, guitars, sitars, whatever they want! And still feel part of the event. And the sense of purity in the bass category remains. If we're going to break out scratch build, partial build, and kit build - having "non bass build" too seems to make sense and it gives everyone a hook into the event.

Any thoughts on that?

For what it's worth, I like the idea of a separate category for the "non-bass" instruments. If my opinion even matters over here on the sidelines.

That sounds like a winner for me. I like watching any build, be it bass, guitar, stick, bass pedals, double bass... Works of a fine craftsman are always joy to watch.

@Beej - Heads up! Groggy is posting about himself in the third person on TB and that's a bad sign. There's no telling where this is going to go.

It may actually blow back on you for two totally unfair reasons:
1) No good deed goes un-punished (thanks for organizing the WBO, BTW) and
2) Your theme of re_____ (insert thing here) got Groggy thdrinking, I mean drthinking, I mean brainstorming over theme ideas while relaxing with a BEvERage or two.

His meandering line of so-called thought went as follows:
1) renewal >> licence plate >> but who hasn't already made a license plate resonator cigar box guitar?
2) reclaimed materials >> when has someone as cheap (I mean frugal) as Groggy not raided the scrap pile for as many components as possible?
3) new build process >> when has Groggy followed the same build process once, let alone twice?
4) reclaimed parts >> see #2
5) rebuilding an entire instrument >> again? but maybe.
6) (and here is the big jump) Dec 22nd >> gift exchange >> builds from traded parts >> JUNKYARD WARS!! These could land under the Assembly Build class. Any "junkyard buddies" could exchange instrument parts and/or carcasses, and build whatever they could from each others' former junk.

They are free to negotiate whatever they consider a fair trade and share as much of the deal as they wish in the build thread.

Groggy has at least two sub-short scale headless bass carcasses to trade and is willing to ship within Canada. Who's interested in being Groggy's junkyard buddy?
