Winter build off 2026 - Primal Screamray

Finally got some time in the spray booth to shoot some clear this afternoon. Got a gig with my band in two weeks so the race is on to get this done so I can rock it on a stage!
Agreed! Looks great and is really coming together. I was working on a house project the other day and my Spotify started cycling through random tracks and this popped up. I was like, hey that looks familiar!
Oh yeah during the week I also did a little epoxy pour onto the pickup cover, so that got some clear coat too
Got this flattened and polished today. Still needs a final buff and some anti-swirl stuff which I thought I had but can't find it so need to get some more. Pretty shiny anyway.
I'm pretty happy with the paint job in the whole, there's a couple of areas around the edge where I had to add more red which aren't blended in as well, but should withstand scrutiny on a stage from 10 feet away! Bit more work to do on the frets, final sand and oil the neck then I can start assembling.

Finally finished the fret work and got some oil on the neck, it's looking pretty nice after just one coat
Came into the workshop this morning only to see this.
Two big cracks in the finish. Not sure why it's done that, there was no wet sanding so it's not water getting in there. Pretty heart breaking so close to the end. I had buffed out 90% of the scratches last night so was nearly ready to assemble it, looks like now I'll have to sand back and respray.

Our sprayer at work thinks I put too thick coats on without waiting long enough between each coat, and also says with that particular lacquer you shouldn't put more than 3 coats a day (I think I did five) so will have to chalk that one up to experience (or lack of). I have done the same before without any I'll effects, maybe I just got lucky.

Ugh! I don’t know if you have already started sanding, but you can try wicking thin CA into the checks, then buffing. I’ve done this using an Xacto blade dipped into CA, then carefully inserting it directly into the crack. Try to start at the ends if possible. Capillary action will draw it in and make it invisible. It is certainly worth a shot before you strip it.

A good rage sanding is a nice change from the typical rage quitting. Either way, fire the drummer!
