Winter build off 2026 - Primal Screamray

I found my collet extension. I'm not sure how recommended these things are but can be very useful in this kind of scenario.

Fretboard radiussed.

Frustrating time today trying to countersink this neck plate for the machine bolts. The countersink it came with were nowhere near deep enough so I tried to enlarge them. The results were not good, no matter what I tried there was a lot of vibration and the holes ended up not very round, and I also ended up going too deep.

Not really good enough. So I think I'm going to flip the plate over and use these flange headed bolts instead. Not what I wanted but looks a lot tidier.

Personally, my preference would be accepting imperfect countersunk holes over large flange head bolts digging in to my hip.

And you can always redo another neck plate later...

Back from my holibobs so trying to crack on with this. I sanded the fretboard to 400 and then recut the fret slots after radiussing. Stole the trick from someone on here of using a piece of fretwire with the barbs filed off to check the depth. An offcut of dowel for a handle made it nicer to use.

Then I thicknessed the headstock. I removed most of the waste on the bandsaw then used a bobbin sander to finish and to get the scoop.

Also got the tuner holes drilled.

Didn't get much done today, but I put some oil on the fretboard to prepare for fretting, which should be tomorrow. Apart from fretting about the deadline, which has started already.

Undecided about whether to stain the maple before oiling, looks pretty nice as is, but some stain could pop the figure a bit more....
That fretboard is insane!

Got a bit more done today. Finished routing the cavity and the shelf for the cover. Drilled some wiring holes. Also you can see I had to go a bit deeper just around the volume pot as it has a slightly shorter threaded section. I also made a template for the battery box, and routed that, and also machined up a bit of purple heart for the cover.

Good progress, but I'm doubting I'll finish this before the deadline as I've very little time to work on it apart from my lunch breaks.
