A pair of beauties from Mike Lull.

And a pair of Ricks..

And in other news, I discovered Marleaux basses today. All I can say is wooooooooow. I'm in love.

Oh, before I forget, that Ibanez fanned fret model is really on point. comfortable, pretty, and a nice tone. Relative to other Ibanez basses, which (IMO), don't always have the best volume response across the entire neck, this one was nicely consistent. You can easily go from thumpy pocket playing to high-c chord work and it will have more or less the same response. I need to stress how comfortable it was to play; it doesn't have quite as much fanning as a Dingwall, so it doesn't even have the initial minute of adjustment to that style of neck. Coupled with the standard Ibanez style neck, this bass was immediately conducive to zippy fretwork and Stanley Clarke style fusion licks. The tone itself was pretty smooth; nice and mellow, courtesy of the Bartolinis. I tried to push the tone into a more aggressive range for a bit though, and couldn't quite coax it out. Smooth and mellow seemed to be the comfort zone on this instrument. Keep in mind though I only spent about 20 minutes in the middle of the typically huge NAMM crowd, and the only amp available was a tiny combo unit that Ibanez had at their booth. All in all, this bass definitely warrants further investigation, and (especially) for the price, the features make it a hell of value. I approve :)

Since I'm only into sub-short scale bass, this really caught my attention. A very well known ukulele builder, Boulder Creek Guitars/RipTide Ukuleles showed a prototype acoustic/electric u-bass, 21" scale designed like a Fender Telecaster guitar. I'm really looking forward to the release in spring.

Back home so here we go!

Heart just sank. The Adam Nitti signature is $6,999.99. To put this in perspective, a Fodera Standard Emperor 6 is $6,850.

Maybe Ibanez will create a budget version of the AND1006 bass.
Ouch! This one had me more interested than the fanned fret sixer because of its wider string spacing. I'm always looking for a lower priced backup for my Dingwall sixer. Forget it. This is priced higher than even my future dream Dingwall Z3 - 6.
