wintremute's NAMM 2020 experience

Great job @wintremute ... I was there for 4 days and missed a lot of what you documented! I did enjoy a few shows at the Gibson Main Stage; Phil X was awesome, French girl named Laura Cox was good and PPL MVR was hysterical! (Did you see 3 giant furry dudes walking around Thursday?). Doug Wimbish All-Star Band was really awesome, 17 year old guitarist and 16 year old drummer, spectacular! Was walking over to Line 6 & Yamaha and Billy Sheehan was just standing outside by himself. I shook his hand and thanked him for being the great dude that his is. 30 minutes later I’m in the Yamaha booth playing his black bass and he comes around the corner... I dead stopped, he says, “keep playing”, I said no chance and handed him the bass. We both had a good laugh, he really is a nice down to earth guy.

That is a great experience. I feel like I did see those furry dudes, but with so much going on it was like, I see them, on to the next thing.

Thanks again for the great coverage! Couldn't get there this year and I almost never miss it. I do remember years ago (20 +) when the high end basses were in another auditorium, seems like adjacent to where the stuff is now. Anyway, I never stopped stoking out on small builders, discovering a bass or two i had to have and cool gear. Most of all, seeing old and new friends. NAMM is it's own universe. Thanks for bringing it!

Epic collection of photos, and the behind the scenes stuff is fun, too—thanks @wintremute!

I love seeing all the basses every year, even if I’m inclined to agree with this more often than not:

Some of the ugliness verges on impressive. And every so often there are some real stunners or intriguing new ideas. But bad design (and Fender cloning may fall under that category—or at least uninteresting design) seems to win the day. At least it helps cut down on GAS!

So my favorite basses I played at the show in no particular order was.

Pat Wilkins - All roasted Jazz bass

Nordstrand - Acinonyx the american one He just made with the flame maple neck (If you have a hard touch like I do, this bass makes you play differently I instantly became more Motown like).

Devon - Had a modern J5 with Delanos that I used for the first song at Tsunami Bass Hang (There is a video earlier in this thread with it). This bass killed.

Dingwall - There was a Dingwall NG3 5 string in silver at the Eich booth that if you breathed on it hard it screams...

G&L CLF L-2500 - The Purple one owned by Steve Araujo that just might have been the best L series bass I have ever tried.

I did...The 32" it was good good but not in 'My' top 5 persay, but to someone else it could easily be in their top 5.

It looks like I will be out there mid-may to shoot a video for him.
