This is the point of my life that I scan through those designer basses in these wonderful @wintremute photos, and ask myself, would I throw that in the back of the CR-V and head to the dive. No, I wouldn't. Would I play it enough at home to justify a $6,000 or more bass...eh probably not. If I hang it on the wall in my living room would enough people visit me to see it and enjoy how much money I can spend on a playable painting. I mean, what a man (woman) does with their hard earned coin isn't my business at all, but I guess I was just raised to be frugal by mom and dad. Perhaps a blessing, perhaps a curse. I did think about something on my walk to the afternoon coffee today. In the older days, there were Fenders, Gibsons, and a few other "companies". And bassists were judged on how they played and not what they played for the most part. Would playing a $12K bass make me better. Probably not, as I don't practice enough. I would look good though standing behind the skateboard bass I am certain.
Perhaps I am cursing myself, with my work bonus I went out an bought a used $55 pedal, my gift to me.
Those basses are so beautiful though, but I think I would be better getting a designer coffee table to put my feet up on while I watch the Grammys this Sunday...eh...not.
