Wisdom on Prince from Gene Simmons

I would never fault a person for managing their pain. I Might be inclined to fault a person for refusing medical treatment based on a (imo) false belief, but then I also believe in freedom of choice, so again, Prince is allowed to live his life as he wants and small minded opinions are nothing.

Furthermore, the media is so quick to jump on the latest "crisis" they can't even wait until the body is cold. They're salivating at the fact that opiates were found in his bloodstream but it has yet to be determined what, if any role they played in his death.

It is a rough and tumble world out there kids, and in this country, anyone can say anything they want to say. That is sort of the basis of the whole enterprise if you think about it.

Sure, everyone is also entitled to their righteous indignation, and to be "offended" by someone else's words, but if words hurt you or alter your day-to-day life in any way, buckle-up, it is going to be a tough life.

I disliked Prince, his persona and his music, sorry, I just didn't like any of it, but that does not mean I'm happy he died, I'm not. It is sad when anyone dies, especially at a relatively young age.

Gene Simmons is entitled to his opinion just as Prince was entitled to be the person he wanted to be, and any "enlightened" musician or artist that disagrees and gets his or her panties in a bunch over another's mere comments is simply a hypocrite in my opinion.

It isn't about liking everyone and everything; it is about understating that everyone and everything has a place in society, even if that person, thing or idea isn't something that appeals to you.

The title of the Rolling Stone article could just have easily read "Gene Saddened by Prince's Death" and just quoted his politically correct sentiments but that wouldn't have interested anyone...

Do a little reading/searching on this. Capt. Kirk of the Roots said that as soon as Prince saw him backstage, he apologized and said he would take care of it. And he did.

I was not speaking about Gene Simmons in particular, but rather about anyone who gets upset because of someone else's contrary opinion; it makes perfect sense.

I think Prince was great. I think it sucks he had a drug problem. It seems that it contributed to his early death. Gene essentially thinks the same thing minus a healthy dose of empathy. Who is surprised at that?

All recent evidence points to addiction being a symptom, or result of, a lack of belonging or connection.

Gene was born to an overprotective mother. His father abandoned him but his mom is an amazing person who worked tirelessly to make up for that.

Iirc his mom is still alive, or was well past the point of Gene having his own family.

I think his lack of understanding here is understandable. Addiction was devastating an entire generation when Gene became an adult. He never understood it because he always felt a sense of connection and belonging to his family, which kept him from falling into addiction.

Honestly, his understanding of addiction is similar to that of a very self righteous child, which, if you've read up on Gene, makes perfect sense.

I think the incident/story says a lot about the character of the 2 people involved. You figure the rest out. And paint it however you desire.

I have been a Prince fan since the 1978 release of "Soft And Wet" a song so controversial they wouldn't even play it at certain times and I remember radio stations getting bombarded with complaints but when he released the album simply titled "Prince" a year later I knew I was witness to an absolute genius it forever changed the way I thought about music. He's gone and dead is dead I don't care about the particulars because it won't change anything.

We all deal with loss in different ways. I've been angry when people killed themselves with drugs. Maybe said some ugly things.The really sad thing is that Prince apparently died alone, and was found by strangers. Tragic.

I don't have a problem with what he said. Overall he sounds like a fan of Prince who is disgusted he might of ended his life early thru addiction. I liked his music and my wife is a huge fan and she's even ticked off it looks like he died from drugs. its a story that we see all too often with entertainers and it's sad.
