i'm sure your pretty ibanez would sound just as horrible in his hands as the basses he builds.

and yes, that video is HILARIOUS.

Here's a quick snap of a view of the neck against some other basses. From left to right: Precision, Thunderbird, Wishbass, Warwick. As you can see from the nut to about the 5th marker it's about the same as the Warwick but it tapers up from there to maybe about 20% thicker between the 9th and 12th marker. In summary thick but totally playable!

Well, as requested ... These are not the best photos, but hey, it's better than nothing I suspect. Keep in mind my walnut JB is not in the picture - Wish has it trying to remedy a very warped neck. I think that kind of fits into the discussion we've been having about neck thickness. If it works out, I will end up with a (rare) thin-necked, truss-rodded JB! Note too, that the Fantasy (zebrawood) is my one and only custom order and is disassembled right now (it's also a short scale and fits a smaller hand size very, very nicely). The (walnut) Stude is the sweetest/easiest playing guitar of the bunch (it is completely finished), but the (ash) Hyper and (maple) Scarab are not far behind (although relatively unmodified by me to date). The (persimmon) Lobe is a 5 string and also pictured is the little (pear) 6 string electric based on the Standard body style. I had another (maple) Lobe and (spalted maple) Hyper that sold recently to make room for the ones seen here.

Skeptics or no, I am having a ball learning about, improving upon, working on, owning and playing my Wishbasses! What does YouTube or anything else have to do with that?

Thunderitter ... Yes, the Hyper (#808) is special. I had been hoping this one would come up for sale again after I let it slip away earlier this year, and it did! Even though I have only leveled/sanded the FB, whittled down the bridge and changed strings; I can tell this one is going to be super sweet. It also is a heavier unit than the others and I like the heft to it. It really feels solid and there is nothing like the Hyper shape to hang off your shoulder properly. Plus, I like the more conservative look of the ash. - Anyway, thanks ...

Just for grins, here is an in-progress shot of the JB, which I have since finished and Wish is currently trying to repair. This shot was right after sanding with 1200 grit paper (I went to 2000g), but before any Tru-Oil. I kind of wish I had not used Tru-Oil, but instead a non-shiny type of penetrating oil for a more subdued, muted finish. Also, when I was applying the Tru-Oil, I tried wet sanding (for the first time) between the 3rd and 4th coat and I think I burned thru the underlying layers of finish and got the wood wet. The result was several weird looking "splotches" here and there that showed up once the next coat of Tru-Oil was applied. So, that and the fact Wish may bang it up a bit removing/replacing the FB and installing a truss rod, I will most likely strip this bass again and redo it completely. I think the walnut will look better in a non-shiney context. I still don't know if he can save it though, so we'll see ...

BillyB: You know, you are right! I never really thought about it, but with a body this small, more wood showing on the front would be wonderful (although when he does rear mounted controls the hole is brought up so close to the top it makes me nervous). I do plan to veneer the control cover plate with walnut though. This one also sounded really good before the warp, and in a unique way, due to the positioning of FB/bridge to PU. I wonder what it will sound like with a new FB and truss rod. I hope it doesn't lose it's unique character in the retrofit process. I'm kind of sweating that out ......

I've never understood why you wouldn't do rear mounted controls as standard. It only means turning the guitar over and drilling two more holes in the body for the pot and jack and twol less holes in the cavity cover. I suppose it is slightly harder to drill the cavity for the cables from the p-up but only very slightly. Hardly a $50 difference IMHO!

I suppose that's another quirk of the beast!

Yeah, but then you wouldn't have that quirky looking cover plate glaring at you! I have to admit, that is the first thing that caught my attention the first time I saw a Wishbass on Ebay. I thought it was hideous really (then), but I don't think that way now. Funny, how this stuff grows on you. Still, I agree wholeheartedly with your perspective.

A couple of years ago when I ordered my custom, #474, I asked Wish about his different designs, only finding about 7 or 8 in his website gallery. He emailed me a Word doc that had pencil outline drawings of many different body shapes. A significant number were copies of existing styles. Did you know that you could get a WB shaped like a Fender Jazz? At the time I think there were about 40 different body styles on that document. I think as customers offer their own designs for customs, he sometimes adds them to his list. I suspect the Kewel and the JB are examples of this.

lol, theres no way you could ever get that kind of sound out of an ibanez sadly.

Unless you were using the boss Cow-B2 effect pedal.

But i have heard some pretty decent sounds coming out of a wishbass, its just that every time i see a wishbass, i prepare for the moos.

I don't believe it, although it was a nice piece of wood.

I said I was going to buy some LEDs and stick my Fantasy on the 'bay if that one sold at that price! I'd better go and look for a packing box!
