One more thing:
Wish's terms are very clear: to get him to make you a bass it's $250 deposit non-refundable. That's the starting point and from there you go.
The fact he's giving you a whole bass and not asking for any more is pretty reasonable in my book, particularly as it's got $500+ of your gear in it. Many business folks wouldn't come to that decision immediately, rather they'd hold you ransom for some or all of the balance. I suppose that's one more example of Wish's bad business practices!
HE LEFT ME NO CHOICE! I didn't decided on this; he did. I would honestly rather pay the remainder and get out of the deal what we both agreed upon!
That's terrible business. Sure, it's cool that I'm paying less money, but at what cost to the instrument? The bottom line: Wish did not maintain his end of the deal. I don't know why you continue to defend the guy. He clearly did not keep up his end of the bargain.
May I respectfully suggest that LexTron and Thunderitter end their debate here...

However, having said this... I think this line of debate is no longer constructive to the situation especially since the bass has not been recieved and fully evaluated yet... not to mention this is totally taking over this Club/Forum... Endlessly posting rebuttles is not going to slolve anything... nor change anyones mind (apparently).
Again just my two cents... or less...

That sounds good to me. I've said all that I've got to say about Wish the man, and his poor business practices. I'll get back to posting once the instrument arrives.
That's been my point from pretty much the beginning. I'm not defending Wish, but I haven't seen anything to date that warranted the abuse that was going on earlier in the day.
I also do a fair amount of arbitration in my job so I see this sort of stuff on a regular basis (not with Wishbasses I should add!) which is probably why this got my interest - it was also a slow Monday for once!
Anyway MJ, I'll respect your wish and close it up, hoping that things work out for LexTron6K and somehow I think they may.
MooseLumps; I have had the same thoughts as you - somehow fantasizing about buying the rights to the body styles and build techniques while never having actually built a bass before. Of course, I can't take this train of thought too far because I do not have the money to buy the name! Then too, I realize that if I built a "wishesque" type bass, there is no way I could "speed" through the build steps like he does and the result would be a bass that could not be sold for a cheap enough price to fulfill the niche that the Wishbass fills. If I put the amount of time into them that by my nature I know I would, I think it would cease to be affordable and thus NOT a Wishbass. Best I stick to refinishing/refining them and enjoying that process as a hobby rather than being put under the stress of actually building them fast enough to keep costs down. It's better to be honest with one's self in the present and avoid regrets in the future! Besides, I am learning so much about these things (thru the refinishing process) I feel pretty certain I will want to build my own basses someday, but it will never be a true Wishbass; there really is only one guy who can do that.
I 'wish' you all the best in your thought process as to whether or not this may be a viable option for your future. Just be circumspect and brutally honest with yourself. Keep us posted. Ciao ...

49, I've been kicking around the idea ever since he announced his retirement plans. I think that I would do something the same as you, slow down, take my time a little more. I have asked my loan officer at my bank and he thinks we can swing a deal... but is it right for me? tough call.

Pete: Not only are Wish's latest offering made out of some very smokin' woods, but he is putting on hotter pickups and still keeping the price at 3 bills. Unreal. I can barely keep myself from hitting the BIN button on this latest Swirl ... Ack!!!
from his blog he mentioned that EMG distribution were causing him grief so he moved over to Kent Armstrong, so I think this is a semi-permanent move.

On another topic - I currently have jury duty for another week and a half and I am using the time to finally write out a detailed account about refinishing a Wishbass; based on the ones I have done. It's turning out to be fairly detailed (translation: LONG) because I am gearing it towards the folks who might not otherwise have much experience doing this kind of thing. Anyhoo ... not so sure what I will do with it once it's done, but I might post it somehow if there are people out there who think they might benefit from it. I guess some it depends on just how long it ends up being - there is a lot of info to try and relay concisely. We'll see .......

Despite all negativity expressed prior to this, I am still incredibly excited to be the recipient of a brand new unfinished Wishbass. The instrument should be arriving tomorrow.
I would greatly appreciate any insight that you'd be willing to offer on the process. Finishing an instrument is all very new to me, and I'm greatly looking forward to the adventure.
I'm looking forward to sharing the experience with the community that's been put together here, step by step. And I think what you're putting together will be very necessary for a guy like me.
I'll post photos and first impressions tomorrow if/when the instrument arrives.

Gubna, my only disappointment with the NorCal GTG was that you did not bring that bass - it's beautiful.
