LexTron; We look forward to your posting tomorrow or shortly thereafter! Can't wait. FedEx is pretty good about getting things delivered on each Thursday I've noticed.

I would be happy to send you my write-up via an email attachment even, if I decide it's too long to post. I will also be including a tool list as part of this effort so hopefully for someone like yourself, it should act as a guide. The bummer for me right now is the fact I do not have a laptop so I am writing this out longhand, which means I have to re-write it into my computer once jury duty is over. Oh well ... Still should be fun.

Gubna, my only disappointment with the NorCal GTG was that you did not bring that bass - it's beautiful.

Gubna; Again, I think this is my favorite shape of all - and it isn't even a normal porduction model. Thanks for showing it to us again - I had forgotten how pretty it is.

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF!!!! What a sexy bass!!!!! Is that an ebony fingerboard -or stained/died black? I'm aghast... and smitten.... wow and WOW!!!

Kesslari -I will make sure to bring it to the next one. it still buzzes more than I'd like, but figuring that out/fixing it isn't a priority for me at the moment.

the fingerboard is ebony, it was a special order and there is some dye on it. I found some on either stewmac or another site. Shortscale 30" Walnut. Stringers are maple and purpleheart. TruOil handrubbed finish. I spent a month sanding it. went all the way up to 2000 grit. I think in this thread or the prior Wishbass thread, I posted some pics as I went. Added the ebony knobs, a HAS varitone in lieu of a tone control.

and there is also a fullscale like this somewhere. After I ordered it, Wish built what I had asked him Full Size, and realized it wasn't what I had ordered - put it up on ebay. I saw it quick enough to realize that's what it was, but when I turned around, someone else snagged it. The lower horn was supposed to look more like a thumb (which he did do on the Full Size), but I still like how it turned out.

That is one beautiful instrument, and that Tru Oil finish is exactly what I'm looking to do with mine.

After combing ebay for several months and even drooling over a few of the basses that 49sfine listed i finally made a purchase. I bought the swirl that he posted most recently. I think i may drive up to NC this weekend and meet Mr. Wishnevsky and pick up my bass in person.

Congrats. If you go, and he lets you, take some pictures of his workshop. And maybe some of the fallen trees in his neighborhood that have ended up as basses.

Congrats YammerHammer, good looking Wishbass, eyed it myself.

I'd jump at the opportunity to visit Steve but it is a drive too long for me (opposite coast...). If you do go, please convey my greetings; I really enjoy my two Wishbasses (betcha can't buy just one...).

MJL; I put the TruBass black nylon Rotos on my new maple Lobe tonight - awesome! I really like the sound and the feel. They just barely clear the nut though, so I might get the extra longs next time. Anyway, thanx for suggesting them - I dig 'em! (It was fun showing you the 4 and 5 string Lobes today, too - it's great having a Wishbass fan right in your own hometown.)

Ditto 49... thanks for sharing those Lobes... I keep going back to those pics of GubNa's Lobe-Peanut hybrid and salivating... That is just one real good looking instrument. If I were inlcined to order a second Wish, I think it would be that exact model... perhaps a 5-string... I guess I'm gonna have to paint some more car bumpers to get the fundage going on that... maybe... perhaps...

Wish sent the bass to the wrong address, i.e. some made up address and NOT the shipping address that I put on my order form. And of course he put the blame on me.

Fortunately I was able to intercept the package before it got sent back to NC, and I'll be going to the facility within the hour to pick it up myself.

Hopefully put more into making this bass than he put into shipping it.

Wow...where do you live?

...Hopefully put more into making this bass than he put into shipping it.

I surely home so too. However, looking at the some of the photos posted in this thread, I've wondered about how much time he actually spends on any given instrument.

I'm hoping that this chain of events has a happy ending!

I'm curious to know if he gave the instrument a serial number and attached his label to the back.

UPDATE

Well, I just picked up the instrument from FedEx, and first impressions are quite dissappointing. One of my biggest disappointments is the fact that Wish put his own knobs on my electronics, and then he failed to include the original knobs that came with what I purchased. And, judging from the way he has chosen to interact with me, there's no chance of me getting them sent to me here in Minnesota.

I will say with full faith that I should have never had Wish install a bridge. I could have done it better myself, and now I'm going to have to pay somebody else to fill Wish's holes and reinstall it. I've got four single-string bridges. The middle two strings look OK, but then both of the outer strings were improperly measured, so Wish had to put them at an angle to compensate for his improper measurements. Seeing this type of half-assery all over the instrument is very disappointing, to say the least.

The bass does have a number, but I don't recall it off hand. It does not have a sticker though. That must be something that Wish puts on during his "final setup" that he neglected to offer me.

Wow. I'm definitely glad that I didn't pay full price for this mess. And I can understand why Wish isn't wanting to stand behind it. I wouldn't either.

Ditto 49... thanks for sharing those Lobes... I keep going back to those pics of GubNa's Lobe-Peanut hybrid and salivating... That is just one real good looking instrument. If I were inlcined to order a second Wish, I think it would be that exact model... perhaps a 5-string... I guess I'm gonna have to paint some more car bumpers to get the fundage going on that... maybe... perhaps...

That would be absolutely fantastic. I think that the sliver of communication that may have existed earlier in the day between Wish and I is no longer there.

Here's new one:

"I get about one customer like you a year, one out of a hundred, and they are usually in March for some reason."

I'd would LOVE to know what I even did to piss the guy off. I even asked him, but to no avail.

Fortunately I saved $250 on the instrument, because I'll be spending at least that at a luthier's place fixing the mistakes that Wish made and finishing the things that he failed to finish. And fortunately I found a great luthier in my neighborhood that I'll be visiting tomorrow to get this ball rolling.
