When the sun rises in the Northwest, BassDudeSA will likely snag another scarab, right? :-)

Naw, I saw this one on Ebay yesterday. I like the wood, but I really don't like the shape on this one. Common to Wishbasses, this new Scarab is really lopsided. Besides, I've already got five of 'em and am trying to cut down on my bass purchases altogether. :scowl:

I would have to agree with you on the purpleheart and mahogany. it would look nicer with some offsetting wood, perhaps something light (maple? Pear?).
And I don't think I like the shape of that scarab compared to some of the others I've seen - but I bet it plays nice.

...now, if it only had the Kent Armstrong pickup and rear mounted control plate, we'd have a winner...

Then it would be a $400 Wish...

On the angular Peanut that sold a few weeks ago, I asked Wish if he'd retrofit a Kent Armstrong soapbar on an eBay bass. He said that he would for $100.

I think the current Scarabe bass on eBay looks pretty good...not as nice as the Angular Peanut and the Curly Bubinga Arrow bass that sold last week, but better than those cutting board bodies (to my eye anyway).

If I'd'a thought I coulda got away with it (low W.A.F.), I would have bought that Ambrosia "Conc". My kids thought it looked like Pikachu, but it _did_ appeal to me.

what's "low W.A.F." ? Who's Pikachu?

yeah, although I didn't like the shape too much, I liked the wood. That's the type of wood he's making mine out of. I asked him for some "in the process" pics, so maybe I'll have some after chirstmas.

Hey Gubna, just out of curiousity....when did you place your order with Wish?

The middle of November, so if everything works out, it should be done around the middle of Jan (near my birthday).

here's what I got:

5 strings
Ambrosia top
Purpleheart fingerboard
Walnut and Maple body and neck

Volume and Tone Controls
jackplate on the back
Kent Armstrong Soapbar Pickup
Spray Laquer finish
(yeah, I know about his finishes, but hey, I don't know if I want to spend the time doing it myself at this point)

Cool, that is probably the exact options I'd order if I was custom ordering a Wish. It would be the Scarab model and have frets as well. We'll be interested in seeing this one for sure Gub.

yeah, I'll post pics when and if I get any... It's a peanut/lobe variation. Oh, and check out my myspace for a scarab-ish bass I'm working on.

That sounds great, definetly let us know how it turns out. Mines gonna be a padouk stude lined fretless with the kent armstrong pup. I just hope i get it by january. I sent in my order in early-mid october, talked to him about a week ago and said he hadn't started on it yet:hmm: When i first ordered it he quoted me mid december. Oh well, i kind of figured it might be a little later with the holidays and all:smug: .

I imagine that if he did not have the wood in stock (isn't Padouk an import wood?), he might've had to wait. But who knows. I'm kinda interested on if mine will show up when he said it would (mid jan). He says he finishes about 1 a day, and at the rate he's been putting them up on ebay, I'm sure he is working on plenty. But to be honest, if it didn't show up until Feb, that wouldn't be so bad - for my wallet...heheheh

Yeah, no doubt. I'm sure he is plenty busy. I forgot about the padouk being import. Anyways, im not really all that worried about it and if it does get here a little bit later it will be easier on my wallet as well :D

Originally, I wanted Burl Maple for the top (like my Lobe, see post #142 here, or on page 8) but he said he wouldn't have any dry for about a year (damn, I might have to order another one then...how about a 5 string fretted, or lined fretless?).
He said he had plenty of Ambrosia ready, so I went with that instead. I can't wait to at least see the wood he used.

The Ambrosia he used on that Conq bass he had up on ebay last week was pretty nice, but I'm not so crazy about the Ambrosia Lobe one he has up now:

How about this? A purpleheart and walnut body with Ebony fingerboard, with active pickups. I bet that would look nice.

That would be nice! Ad a bloodwood or padouk neck with flamed maple stringers and im sold!

On a side note though, i dig the top on that one, but i dont care for the green piano poplar:hmm: I like that shape too.

Sounds like the next one to order...hmmmm, maybe in a few months.

Lobe
5 or 6 strings
Walnut and Purpleheart Body
Ebony Fingerboard
Padouk Neck with Flamed Maple Stringers
Active pickups
Rear mounted control plate
