I use it purely for looks. I absolutely love some of the exotics especially curly Koa and Burl. That being said, I'd rather build a single wood bass and let the form be the attraction .

I always think figured woods on a bass look pretty vulgar to be honest. Like the sort of dining table a lottery winner might buy - ostentatious and ugly. But then I've never thought of getting a personalised plate for my car. Or buying a massive gold chain. Or a medallion with my initials on it. Etc.
If I see a painted bass, I have little expectation. It could be anywhere from fantastic to a piece of crap.
If I see a bass made of premium woods, I have an expectation that it should be high-end, which includes superior workmanship, not just looks.
When I see a (fairly rare) bass out of high end woods but which has problems do to poor design or poor execution and lack of care to details and quality, it pisses be off that someone would waste good wood and try to pass it off as a good bass.
If I see a poor quality painted bass, unless I know it was high dollar and/or carries expensive hardware, I don't care.
...there are a ton of plywood bodies with high grade veneer tops.
Well if you wanted to get all technical, anyone who starts laminating multiple layers of timber in fact ends up with... "plywood".![]()

It's not really red dirt, it all the excess streamers, paper signs, and OU wear from the landfills that has contaminated the soil color.
