Worlds First Drum Machine in Pedal Form!

And jeez Pudge, did you not see the post that the hardware was finished??? That's why is doesn't apply. The software was originally expected to be done a month before the first projected finish date of June...

Why do you "cheerleaders" always take a questioning of the situation as an insult. I knew what I was getting into when I sent my money in. And I also don't expect everything to go perfect in an original design project. I'm just curious as to how the software is coming ...

Gosh.

Hey man, I didn't take anything as an insult. But you certainly seem very defensive (and persistent) about it. I try to use terms like "seems" and just generally be open to other opinions while trying to wrap my brain around the logic. You want the software. I get it. Harware is done... got that too. But namecalling isn't the way to go homie. Anyone who is a "cheerleader" might be stoked that the pedal is finally thru production. We might also be the people in life who have taken on big challenges, so we can relate to the magnitude of what Team BeatBuddy is trying to accomplish. So while everyone is very eager to "get their's", don't for get what it takes for someone to PROVIDE that thing you want so badly. That's where I'm coming from. I'm not here to start arguments. TB is only any fun when people contribute without childish behavior (again, I'm not pointing fingers or slinging accusations). I just wish people could walk a mile in some tougher shoes from time to time.

For anyone wondering exactly what was said about the software release dates, here are the most relevant posts:

From mid-April:
Any chance of getting the software before the pedal? I thought that was something that was possibly going to be able to happen, for those of us who purchased it already. I would be great if we could learn to use, program things, and get going as soon as we got the unit.
Yes, we will release the software probably around a month or so before delivery. We're currently adding new features and testing it so it's not done just yet.

From July 19:
We will have a Mac version of the software. However, it will probably be released around 1 month after we release the PC version (which we plan to release in the next couple of weeks). Once we make the Mac conversion, any changes to the software have to be done twice -- once for each version. So we want to get the PC version right first before converting to Mac.

I didn't view either of these as promises, but rather projections. I suppose that's a matter of interpretation. The same optimistic projections that said the Beat Buddy was coming in April, then July, then August, and now next week. If they are telling the truth about where the product is RIGHT NOW (and we have no reason to believe they aren't; on the contrary, the last update provided a lot of photographic evidence), then the time slips are frustrating and annoying but we are ultimately getting closer and closer and the light is at the end of the tunnel. As much as I've been so excited about this product that I can't help but "defend" against some of the skepticism, and I probably sound like one of the "cheerleaders," if you look at the history of this product you shouldn't be surprised. It took many months, close to a year IIRC, from when this thread first started before they even got the crowdfunding campaign going. It's difficult to know if they could have foreseen the part availability issue that caused the first major slip. Things keep taking just a little bit longer than they say they will, or that we hope they will. But there does seem to be progress.

All of this to say, it's exactly the same way on the software. It's taken forever, but this pedal is now allegedly on its way to us. I have no reason to believe it won't get here...eventually. Same with the software.

I would rather be funny than mean or critical, but I will say this: the irony is his posts are at least 10 times as repetitive and worthless as the posts he is complaining about. And they contribute to the propagation of the thread! Total fail.

You guys, there is a taco-colored Stingray owned by JPATA, someone should call the police!

"... talk about what they know, not what they believe."

Know/believe = Same/same. :meh:

I hit my head on the wall, :banghead:, therefore I believe the wall is solid.
I hit my head on the wall, :banghead:, therefore I know the wall is solid.

I know I like obtuse humour, and I believe making pointless comments repeatedly bashing the other thread comments as being pointless is highly humorous. So knock yourself out :banghead:...

Did somebody say "taco"?

Not a misunderstanding, more a lack of understanding. Yes, they were always clear about it, I simply didn't understand what that meant.

And let me be clear - I'm not upset in the least, nor feeling misled. Like I said - I bought into the concept of what it is, because I believe it's sound and useful. I agree the way it works and what it doesn't do (external programming) is good. So it's all good.

But that said, I still need a way to accomplish the stuff that it doesn't do, and I'm still a bit clueless on what that is, exactly. Fine, it's more stuff I've gotta learn. I like the learning process or I'da never taken up the bass! I'm just asking for some guidance from those that already know this stuff. I'm not even sure of some of the terms of what I've got to learn... I'm expecting that when the BB software becomes available it will turn on some lights, because I'll then know what it's expecting as an input. Once I know what I need, I can head down the path of making it happen.

Is there a book? Should I pick up a copy of one of the Electronic Musician magazines? Is there a 'MIDI for Dummies' book ? Off to Amazon...

ArtechnikA----
When I first found out about BB and realized what it was and wasn't capable of, I realized that for my purposes I would have to figure out a way to create my own midi files to make BB useful. I'm not a drummer. And having played bass for way too many years to mention but knowing jack diddly about midi's, DAW's, and any type of recording software, I was absolutely clueless on how to approach this. Had some serious misgivings but after two months of research, picking brains, Googling, emailing manufacturers, etc... things are getting closer. I picked up a Korg padKontrol midi, downloaded Studio One (almost immediately upgraded from Free to the Artist version), and got to the point where I could create a very simple drum track and export it as a midi file that, hopefully, BB will read. I'm an acoustic kit guy and now starting to focus on how to use automated and manual tools within Studio One to try and get a more natural, less mechanical sound to the tracks. Feel free to private message me. I think we might bore others with some of the beginner info and it would also sidetrack the thread. If you really want to do it, plow ahead. I've still got a hell of a looooong way to go. But if can get this far, anybody can!

It's getting very tiresome having this thread on "watch" only to have to read jibberjabber. I'd be quite happy for it to be locked until David comes back, easy for him to ask for it to be reopened.

Some people are interested in the updates even though the BBs aren't here yet. There have been worthwhile topics being discussed, e.g., which drum editor to use, change in plans on the footswitches, etc. I don't know why this thread should be different than any other. Should we shut down the XD-1 thread until the XD-2's ship? (Not a perfect comparison.) Did you see the Bass Whammy threads when that product had a several week shipping delay? This kind of stuff happens all the time, there's exactly zero reason that the thread should be closed just because it's on the nerves of a few people who don't want to unsubscribe (but are willing to post in the thread complaining about it).

And if you don't know how to unsubscribe, I refer you to my link above!
