That's the newest addition to the board and I'm still figuring out if I like it or not. It's a bit difficult to control the gain and still get a good sound. At this point there is one ending note to a song being played this week that I'm going to kick it on for because it adds what feels like an endless amount of sustain.

That's what I've read. As soon as I saw that on your board, I was like, "Hey! That's different!", and searched for it on the boards. People have said the gain is hard to control and there's a volume boost. I have yet to find a fuzz that I have any use for in a worship setting. Can't get a decent sound out of one and it gets too muddy. If anything, I might stack a couple of overdrives for the "really crazy" stuff, but haven't even done that yet in an actual live setting. Just for fun. But I know people like to use them for some synthy stuff or Hillsong Y&F dance-worship, as I like to call it.

For the Hillsong stuff I think more of an overdrive works for it. We had a River Valley song called Chain Reaction pop up and I was successfully able to use my SansAmp BDDI for an overdriven low end boost coupled with the chorus pedal to make it synth sounding.

I know I'm probably the exception to the rule in these here parts, but thus far I have only used an overdrive one time in church. It was on "This is Amazing Grace" by Phil Wickham. You just can't play that song without a pick and a little drive on it, in my humble opinion. Granted, I rarely play out these days, so I haven't had many opportunities TO use my board. I'm playing again next weekend and we're doing another one of his tunes. Probably gotta dust off the old Darkglass VMT again. But yes, if we start doing more of the modern stuff, the overdrive will definitely get used more and more. Driven/synthy bass seems like the in thing these days, and I love it . . . sometimes.

Yeah the bass lines in those songs, use a much cleaner bass synth then in some places. For alot of them you can also get away with just using the right sub octave pedal with no clean sound. I use a Parallel Fuzz / Sub Octave but I run an expression controlled filter after so I can clean it right up.

An octave pedal has been on my radar since diving into modern contemporary worship songs. Perhaps it's time to invest!

Yeah, I've been using my Cog Effects T-65 with a Prunes & Custard in the loop for songs that have synth bass in them. With the loop on the T-65, you can dial in just the amount of fuzz you want without having to make it crazy.

Dang. That Cog Effects T-65 looks amazing. That would be a glorious beast. Might be worth selling a couple of pedals . . . or three . . . to get one.

In the spirit of keeping this pedal board small (really, I don't want to use my much larger one unless I'm up to my ears in pedals that I just don't want to switch out), I ordered a Hotone Octa Octaver. I listened to over a dozen octave pedal demos since my post about it and I couldn't find anything in other pedals that this one didn't do to my satisfaction.

Adding to my last post, and I'm sure you'll laugh, but I have a template of my board from VooDoo Labs to see what pedals will fit on there. Ignore the black velcro lines since I don't use them like that, but it gives me a fantastic way to do a pedal layout to see what will work. My Mesa DI still has the option to be turned sideways, but I'll only do that if I'm really going to try and cram something on there. I can set the boxes to the pedal's exact dimensions in Photoshop and then figure out what spacing I have for cabling.

That's actually a really good idea. Easier than sitting on the floor and trying to manually shift things around every time you buy something new. Especially since most of it has velcro on the bottom already and is hard to move. I usually wind up covering my board in paper while I shift things around until I decide on a layout.
