How does the Thumpinator work for ampless? In ear stuff?

It works great, although I mostly use it to limit the below 30Hz content that I send to the board. This allows me to boost the bass without adding mud.

I have thought about getting one, but isn't it redundant to the filtering of OCSD, or no? Plus, if I got one, then I'd have to have another direct box after the Thumpinator, vs using the direct out of the OCSD. Unless I put it before the OCSD, but then it wouldn't affect any low end created BY the OCSD.

Thanks. There are times where I feel like the OCSD can get too woofy in the low end when I crank the cab size and resonance. (To be fair, in the manual he warns of that happening when you crank the resonance) I wonder if putting a thumpinator in front of it would help that. Allow me to crank the resonance further without the woof.

Sounds likely. Having the mT in front of my Noble allows me to boost the bass without getting overloaded. Of course it also has a 150Hz HPF switch that also does that, but sometimes I want more in the 30-150Hz range in my signal. I like options

Here is the newest iteration of my dual-use Pedalboard. The add is the FEA-Labs DB-CL, in the place of the Cali76 CB, and I also squeezed the Anadime Bass Chorus on. Off the board is the VMT. I have some secular gigs coming up that will find it back in the place of the
Anadime.

The DriveMaker is fairly raw and aggressive sounding, unlike the VMT, or the B3K. Tons of tonal options though, and I will need plenty of shed time exploring them. For WT, its usefulness is still TBD, but on the last secular gig it copped an Entwistle vibe perfectly

So here's a question for you:
What kind of headphone/in-ears are those of you who run ampless using to monitor your sound? I recently went through a time of buying and trying some drive pedals, and they all wind up sounding about the same to me through my headphone setup. I do have the OCSD, which helps with my direct-only drive tone tremendously, and is a must-have, and I monitor through the built-in headphone amp. But I feel like whether it's an overdrive, distortion or a fuzz pedal, in the end they wind up sounding and behaving very similar direct. You can't get the gain up past about 9:00 before the whole thing just turns to a giant fart. It kind of defeats the purpose of even trying to HAVE different drive pedals, in my opinion. After my most recent bout of purchases, I'm back to my old standby's, the Darkglass VMT and my MXR M80 DI+ (used solely as a distortion pedal). They both sound pretty good to me, if you keep the gain knob under control. Nothing else has sounded different enough to justify keeping. I recently tried a fuzz (SolidgoldFX Imperial), which is probably a great fuzz, but it sounds like a$$ through my headphones. I also recently tried a Bearfoot Blueberry, which is a great preamp pedal, but I can get the same exact tone out of my VT Bass DI, if I tweak the knobs just right. But maybe in a different setup the two might sound different enough to justify having both of them, for example.

But I'm starting to think maybe the issue is in the headphones I'm trying to use to monitor them. I have some newer Samson studio monitor headphones that I got on sale, which work well overall, but my drives sound pretty different in them than they do in my AKG(?) dual drive in ear monitors. And they don't sound GREAT in either. Being that I'm not currently playing anywhere, I don't have the opportunity to gauge what my stuff sounds like through an actual PA. All I have to go on are the headphones.

What are you guys/girls using, and do you wind up liking how drive pedals sound through them as you are trying to dial in your tone before showing up on a Sunday morning?

I am using Westone UM Pro 30 (previous version) running out of the headphone out of the OCSD. I feed the Aviom mixer into the Aux In on the OCSD. I like the sound of that setup.

I've been tempted to do this as well...get rid of my Rolls box for my IEM's, but I really want my tuner. So until the OCSD comes with a tuner/mute built in, I'll stay with my Nano.

I suppose I could use a clip on tuner, but I like having the mute/tune option.

I have my tuner and compressor as well. I have a Tasty Blender mixer between the church's Aviom and the Aux in of the OCSD so that I have adjustable limiters to protect my ears.

I'm with you on the tuner... I like having one too... just have your tuner and OCSD on your Nano and done

I agree, however, I've been thinking of adding wireless to my board... looking at a Shure GLX-D 16 which is supposed to have a very good tuner. Not shure… er sure ;-) if I'm going to go that route yet. In the meantime, my Turbo Tuner and Rolls are meeting my needs.

Well, I'm playing for a church service where a wireless definitely fits the bill this Sunday, so I picked up a GLX-D 16 this morning. Looking forward to playing tether-free.

I did the GLX-D switch earlier this year. And now, usually, my Turbo Tuner ST-300 minis are just hanging around. I have found though, that when I'm in a cramped stage situation, that the GLX-D can feedback when using an amp and having to be right by it. In those situations, I go corded, and use a Turbo Tuner. The tuner is excellent, and I'm very pleased with the clarity. I did have a Line6 for a while, but prefer the Shure.

G30 is what I (and our acoustic and rhythm player) use. Works great.

I have a G30 and my guitarist has a G50. Both seem to function pretty well. Just use fresh batteries for each gig and don't put pressure on the cable connection and you should be good to go.

Here's my rig. I've messed around with a bunch of preamps and compressors and settled on this. If you're not familiar with the G-Labs BC-1 comp, it's amazing.

The Source Audio EQ is basically used to set levels before the compressor. I have four basses, it has four presets...works for me!

The H9 handles effects duty and is also my tuner. The Mooer Hustle Drive for some distortion when required.

The micro Thumpinator is just a fantastic piece of kit. Really cleans up the bottom end allowing you to use shelving EQs, like the one in the Noble, to boost your bottom but not the mud.

Then there is the Noble, which is every bit as amazing as everyone says it is.
