Hopefully their discontinuation doesn't make the resell go up. My settings result in a noticeably synthy sound, but it fits in on any song to add real depth to built up sections.
OK - now you're just being cruel LOL - I do really like them. So balanced and cool looking - and from what I know, they sound even better!
Mwah ha ha ha... They are astonishing instruments and the range of sounds that the Custom Series, in particular, produce are stunning. Everyone talks about Geddy and Justin Chancellor's sound but they're just a tiny corner of what the Wals are capable of tonally. Do check out my Wal History blog for some more drool-tastic info... After some time with the board and both of my basses this morning, I have realized that while the output of both basses seem to be equal, there is something going on that is causing the Z 5 to drive the input of both OD's much harder than my 55-01. Settings on the blueberry with the Z that are a mild OD are almost squeaky clean with the 55-01. I may need to find an input on something with a meter to make sure I have the trim pot on my Z's Pre-amp set equal to the 55-01.
Added: Just did a few minutes playing through the compressor and the Z's output is definitely hotter. Indicator's flashing with it, but nothing with the 55-01. I'll have to see if I can reduce the output with the internal trim pot. If not, hopefully the Honey Badger Heavy Hitters I am waiting on for the 55-01 will bring the output up.

I had a similar problem between my two Modulus Flea basses. Both have Bart preamps, but the FB5 is a 3 band 18 volt and the FB4 is a 2 band 9 volt. After I swapped the pickup in the FB5 for a Legacy Lane Poor the signal went nuclear and was clipping everything in sight. Thankfully they had the oversight to put a trim pot on it and I was able to reel it back in. The same thing, but with less gain difference, happened on my FB4 when I swapped the original Bart for a Duncan. Easy fix, really, unless you end up with too little gain.

There is no lack of gain from the Delano's. Hopefully the same holds true for the Heavy Hitters and I can get them evened out without a preamp swap in the 55-01. It currently has a Glock 3 band and I am really enjoying it!
This is the current state of the pedalboard. So far it has worked very well for me. My tendency is to go large, then sell off, go basic and slowly bulid back up to fit the one more pedal that I 'need'. This is a decent compromise for me now. Yeah, I miss all the pedal options I had on my big board, but at this time, this works.

I have a question for all of you pedalboard people, for which I am as well. Whenever I listen to the week's set, I rarely, and I mean rarely, hear any effects on the record. I played an event with Hawk Nelson recently, and their bassist, Daniel, only used a Noble. The task I'm given at my church is to play the track 95-100% accurately, so I don't get to use my board much. Are you in a position to take liberties? Have you negotiated your board into the mix? How often are you using anything outside of gain/comp/eq?
I can take liberties if I wish, but to be honest, in a worship environment the sonic landscape is usually pretty busy. Multiple guitars, at least one keys player, multiple voices, and a few other incidental instruments. If it was a more open setup sonically, I would take more liberty. For me personally, I am more likely to play embellishments in gaps, than be effect heavy. If I take my full board, it is usually because my wireless, and favorite Preamp is on there. At most I generally only use a little bit of chorus, and maybe an octaver if there is a place that it suits.
I'm allowed to take most of the liberties I want. But I don't very often. I have done stuff like used fuzz for big choruses or added reverb and strummed chords. But 99.9% of the time I don't venture past the realm of EQ+Dirt+Comp. If you're a tasteful player you'll find you're probably given the room to play things you think fit well. I just recently made my board bigger to have access to a few more things for when I do want them. I had found myself saying a few times "I wish I had volume/octave/chorus/fuzz here". My previous Nano used Tuner->Comp->CabSim->Preamp so there wasn't really anything else I could add, the whole board was basically always on. But I've just started playing around with taking this board out, I think it gives me options without being offensively big or distracting me from actually playing.
Like @JoshC, I also don't stray far from comp and dirt. I believe my church allows me to be free to contribute creatively in worship, though I feel there are two big understood caveats:
- Whatever I add to a worship song should fit within the general sound/feel/genre of what we're playing. For instance, there are certain effects you just won't hear (or much) in Hillsong, Jesus Culture, Travis Greene, or Israel Houghton, etc. So adding envelope filter in "So Will I" just wouldn't make sense and distract more than anything else.
- Whatever we do as worship leaders on bass should assist in doing just that--lead God's people to worship Him. Sometimes, as artistic musicians, we exchange the true purpose of what we do for an outlet to jam or receive praise to ourselves--and that's dangerous and an affront to God's glory.
I'm guessing many of you are like me then, where I'll bring my board even though I may only use the tuner on it, or you play outside of weekend services. I take a Boss MS-3 with me to church mainly for the tuner and it fits in my Gruv Gear bag, and I have it just in case I want to throw an octave on one note.

I have a very large board (PT Pro) that I use for both bass and guitar at home and at church. On a typical Sunday I use a lot of it when I'm playing guitar, but almost exclusively compressor, preamp, and tuner on bass.
