Worship Bass Pedalboards

Added Reverb. I get to try it out next week.

Hahaha, yep, always evolving (or in some cases, devolving)!

As for the bass, its an alder MJT aged P body in Firemist gold. I did the aging on the pickguard to knock it down to a more scratched up matte and to match the aged theme. The bridge is a Hipshot Kickass that I aged using muriatic acid. Pickup is a regular Lollar P and the wiring is a Gunstreet Volume Bleed harness. Neck is from Warmoth (roasted maple/rosewood board). Tuners are aged Gotoh FB-30's. Strap is from Original Fuzz. At the time of this pic the bass had DR Sunbeams on it which I really like. Currently, I'm running D'Addario Chromes and also loving them.

It was a fun and really straightforward build. Really does the classic 60's P tone well!

So im guessing if you had to pick between BDDI V2 or the tone hammer, you would go for the V2? Lol. Also, do you use your boost to compensate for the V2 not having a gain knob?

yes the V2 has been on and not going anywhere. The tone hammer Ill never sell. It's a great preamp but for live sound I think, and our sound man who is bass player as well, feel the V2 just works better. As far as the boost, I tried it to push the V2 harder but it didnt work that way. Its not on now. Ill use it in front of my SVT.
The V2 mids is where its at, I can get the "amp" sound but hear the notes.

Oh ok, i see. I'll have to try the V2 then. I've been debating between the tone hammer and the V2 for a little while since they were both recommended by one of the other bass players at my church.
I have to ask though, why did you want to push the V2 harder? Lol

well I find "drive" pedals weird without an amp. Im use to my SVT and 810 and drive or fuzz pedals. I thought maybe if I sent a stronger signal the Bddi might break up a bit. It did, but not the way I wanted. I tried a bunch of "drive" pedals with the TH and found that I really liked the SFX Beta DLX with the gain on the tone hammer on. I didnt like the DLX with the V2. So Im kinda at square 1 on drive pedal to mate with the V2. Although, I am finding that keeping it simple seems to work just as well. Tuner, Markbass Comp, then into BDDI. I think I am coming full circle on just holding down the bottom end and laying the grove. I switch between pick and fingers, so I use the pick to "drive" the song and tweek tone knob on bass. Oh and I also switch back to Dimarzio model P pickups, they are hot. I roll volume down a bit and bump just a hair if I need to.

I have had a years-long struggle trying to find drive pedals that I like direct without an amp. I've never liked the way the Tech21 stuff breaks up. The game changer for me was adding a DSM OCSD cab sim at the end of my chain. That really tamed the fizz and brought the drive pedals to life. But then I needed to raise some cash and had to sell it. Nothing else has really compared. I didn't get same feeling with my Tech21 VTDI, but it was close enough, so I stuck with that. The key to using drive pedals without an actual amp (like ending your chain with the BDDI straight to board) is to keep the gain level on the drive pedals pretty low. Like 9:00 max on most I've tried. And a clean blend on the drive pedal goes a long way to making it usable without an amp.

I really liked the "gain" on the Tone hammer. Just sucks that you cant switch it on and off. With it set low it sounded really nice. I bet it thru the OCSD would probably sound nice. But Im not gonna find out! hahaha Im set for now, Im really blessed with the gear I have and I am very grateful.
