I'm thinking of ordering either the RNDI or SLO to replace my Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra - its DI hiss issue has drawn comments from every sound guy at every venue I've played and I've no need for the broad range of distortion it has to offer any more (I've fallen in love with the tone of my flatwounds, and the AOU's drive/distortion sounds better with roundwounds - just my opinion).

I'll be running a Harmonic Booster -> SuperSymmetry -> DI from a JMJ Mustang bass with flatwounds, so a very basic setup at this point (saving up for the HX Stomp in future), but I'm torn between the clean, great sound of the RNDI vs. the tube goodness that the SLO will add (and option of drive if needed).

A notch better than the RNDI or the SLO would be an Arkham Sound Oracle tube preamp followed by the RNDI. This is a dead quiet setup, with most amazing tubey goodness.

I'm running a VMP5 with Sadowsky Blue Label Flatwounds > Polytune Noir > Effectrode LA-1A > Arkham Sound Oracle > RNDI and it is glorious, and dead quiet.

I agree with @tedsalt it is worth every penny. I purchased my RNDI used for $200 too.

There's a lot of cat's that spend a lot more than that on their stage rig between amps, preamps, and cabs. I play almost exclusively in a FOH/IEM situation these days so having a good direct to board sound is important to me and this is the kind of setup that is my rig.

I'm curious if the 2020 will add noticeably more goodness than what's already there! As far as I'm concerned I'm done looking. I think. Well ... keep us posted!

I love the Oracle and definitely prefer it to the Shift-Line SLO and Shaw Tube Injection. But I still want to try the Noble.

The Oracle does sound amazing and triggered my GAS when I saw it, but I'm situated in South Africa and therefore need something that does international shipping...so that puts the cost up another $50-$100 per item from the US (excl. our import taxes and VAT) - that's why I didn't really consider the Oracle, whereas the SLO ships internationally and shipping is affordable.

But you've all given me something to ponder on :)

I unfortunately had to sell off most of my board about 6 months ago when my wife was out of work. We got back up and my board is now complete! Forever! (Ha ya right)

All clean, wired up, and ready to go! Literally plug and play - plug into the right inputs, out of the DI or 1/4" out on the rockboard patch bay. Power in. Booyah. Also have a usb outlet tucked in the corner by my AOU xlr for plugging in my synth. Multi purpose: works for Bass, Acoustic Guitar, and some Synth stuff I'm playing with.

Bass/acoustic: input > bloomery vp > mxr comp > b3k > hx effects > DI Underboard *acoustic DI's from here* > di through to AOU (bass DI from here)

Synth Pads: synth input (directly into hx return 1) > into acoustic DI (If playing bass) or through to the AOU (if playing acoustic)

I have to admit, I deleted that cause looking at your board (and reviews) has made me want to go all-tubes and forget about the Helix/Quad Cortex.
I'm even looking at my SuperSymmetry and contemplating whether I should sell it to fund the LA-1A :thumbsup:

Thanks. Will have to wait awhile for things to calm down, though. Our exchange rate has weakened by almost 20% to the dollar in a month as a result of this virus' impact on our economy, so imports will be out for the next few months at least.
I'm doing research in the meanwhile, and I must say, this thread is enlightening - discovered the SLO, Oracle, IE Nimbus and the Neunaber Immerse on here and the GAS is sky high now.
@scubaduba your compressor reviews are phenomenal :thumbsup:
