I've seen one "good" Zephyr video that I will listen to when I have some better equipment available. However, when differences, that are described as being likely to not be noticed in a mix, are being sought after an A/B comparison is leaps and bounds above the rest. Even with these wimpy computer speakers that I have listened to the Zephyr demo through, I can tell that it sounds good. But I'm not willing to sell off things and commit the funds based on it.

Funny you mention adding a transformer to your signal chain as I've been experimenting with just that. This is my current test of a military audio transformer from long ago.

I'm currently running the SLO and have never had an opportunity to try the Zephyr. I did recently add a Rupert Neve DI and I can tell a bit of a difference between it and using the SLO's DI. The RNDI does add something good.

All clean, wired up, and ready to go! Literally plug and play - plug into the right inputs, out of the DI or 1/4" out on the rockboard patch bay. Power in. Booyah. Also have a usb outlet tucked in the corner by my AOU xlr for plugging in my synth. Multi purpose: works for Bass, Acoustic Guitar, and some Synth stuff I'm playing with.

Bass/acoustic: input > bloomery vp > mxr comp > b3k > hx effects > DI Underboard *acoustic DI's from here* > di through to AOU (bass DI from here)

Synth Pads: synth input (directly into hx return 1) > into acoustic DI (If playing bass) or through to the AOU (if playing acoustic)

I read somewhere that the HX effects doesn't have IR capabilities...is that true?

I'm thinking of ordering either the RNDI or SLO to replace my Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra - its DI hiss issue has drawn comments from every sound guy at every venue I've played and I've no need for the broad range of distortion it has to offer any more (I've fallen in love with the tone of my flatwounds, and the AOU's drive/distortion sounds better with roundwounds - just my opinion).

I'll be running a Harmonic Booster -> SuperSymmetry -> DI from a JMJ Mustang bass with flatwounds, so a very basic setup at this point (saving up for the HX Stomp in future), but I'm torn between the clean, great sound of the RNDI vs. the tube goodness that the SLO will add (and option of drive if needed).

Something to keep in mind from the RNDI manual:
"Try to avoid placing the RNDI close to strong electro-magnetic radiators
like power amplifiers, as some noise can still be induced on the transformers through the RNDI's steel
shielding."

In my small practice space, I have moved my RNDI towards my amp cabinet and other things and I did pick up some hum.
So you do have to consider placement when using the RNDI.

That said, the RNDI is a quiet DI. I bought mine for just under $200 used.

I have tried the OCSD in front of the RNDI but the OCSD adds amplification white noise when I engage it.
I believe you will have the same white noise with any DI as it comes from the OCSD.

I picked up the RNDI to see how much boost it would give my bass as compared to the passive JDI which requires you to boost your signal to over come the signal loss. The RNDI definitely gave me a boost and it sounds great.

Our church worship / service is posted online at [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and if you click on Live Streams and select the 3/29 11:00 service and have good speakers you can hear my pedalboard and hacking. I have never officially studied music. My mom majored in music and taught music. My daughter took piano and played/plays upright and of course can also sight read. As for me, I mostly play by ear, can read charts a little, and have not had much in the way of lessons, so for the most part am self taught.

There are three songs at the beginning, and one at the end. I was prepared to play three, and when I got there this morning found out they had made a change. So I had previously practiced two out of the four.

We did not have our normal Thursday evening rehearsal.

Squier VMP5 with Sadowsky Blue Label Flatwounds > tuner > Effectrode LA-1A > Arkham Oracle > RNDI > FOH

I did turn HPF on as it seemed boomy with it off. Also turned treble up to noon and hi switch on.

Again please excuse my poor skills ...
