Worship Bass Pedalboards

Ok guys. I think I've decided to NOT ago with a fancy head as a DI. I need an amp/cab rig like 6 times a year. Not worth the expense. I use my pedalboard DI/IEM a every week - at church anyway - so it seem like that's a more practical place to invest my money.

So I need a good DI. Could be tube but I have tunes in my compressor. Could have a preamp as well. It would be a bonus if I could power it with my DC7 but that seems unlikely.

I know there's a big tube DI/Pre thread and I've read it and listened. Just look g for any more input before I decide. Jim Bergantino is supposed to be coming out with a preamp/DI a pedal (but probably not till NAMM) that will probably be very nice. I suppose I could wait.

Any words of wisdom?

Alright. I guess I'll be *that guy*. After listening to the audio samples in the DI/Pre thread you referenced which sounded best to you? Of your top 3 picks for sound, which one has the features/attributes you most want? Is that one in your price range? If you, then you have your selection.

I like the REDDI.
I like the P15 - the fact that both outs get the tube goodness is a plus and the added eq and it's cheaper. They were available today but I didn't pull the trigger. Guessing they are gone.
I like the Noble, but it is pretty expensive and hard to get like the P15.
The Shaw was also nice.

Well I had suggested narrowing to three, but I guess 4 is close enough.

Rumor has it...the Berg pedal will be essentially a "B|Amp in a pedal"... That would mean... lpf, hpf, ability to make presets, high quality DI, tuner, drives, ability to change eq points, usb firmware updates, etc... I'm pretty sure it will have IR capability, too. Hard to pass up those pedal features at end of chain...after your LA! I'd at least wait and see what it's all about...

I just bought a Mesa Subway DI for the exact reason you stated... I haven't gotten to use it for service, yet, due to my unpredictable schedule, and a supervisor that went do her job... different story, different day...

I've been running it into the AUX in of my Mesa D800 and it sounds and works as it should, providing fantastic, easy to dial in sound. Plus, I'm powering it, for now, with a daisy chain One Spot... so no doubt your DC7 Will do the job.
I'm actually planning to get the DC5 when and if my MBD2 ever gets here

Not sure. My active basses of course have preamps. My P bass is a P bass.

I'm about to get an Shift Line Olympic MkIIIs. It may not be on the same level as a Noble or Reddi, but I'm excited to get some tube into my signal. And like to have just a touch of breakup on my tone. If all goes well it will be replacing my VTDI.

I have thought about the SLO as my DC7 could power it. That's a consideration if you discount I prefer the REDDI tone. I made the mistake of watching Ian's live Instagram last night. He makes effects sound so awesome that I want a big board. But usually after a couple days I realize in my current situation I'd never really use them.

I enjoy my HX Effects for church usage. My primary sound is EQ w/HPF&LPF, compressor, very light reverb purely so it doesn't sound dry on the livestream, a drive I kick on for louder courses of an upbeat song, a noise gate to get rid of stage hiss from cheap LED lights, and an EHX Freeze in a loop for long droning notes.

There's a few songs with bass solo's in 14 fret G string territory where I kick on a different EQ to accent that level of highs.

And for another song, I have a patch that is hard compressor to get rid of attack, followed by an auto-swell with split-path into chorus and pitch-shift (down octave + up 5th usually). This results in a subtle bow-like synth sound for when we don't have a keyboardist to fill that.

As far as effects on bass, I've had to come to terms with what I find myself using the most or wishing I had when I didn't setup pedals. It's boiled down to two drive pedals and an octave for me and I've been consistently satisfied with this setup for about a year now.
