Worship Bass Pedalboards

Watched a tutorial on that Dr. Sparrow pedal. Looks like it has most of the same functionality as the Tone Hammer, but it doesn't have a mid setting. On the Tone Hammer the Mid setting is parametric so is a very powerful feature.

So I cranked the Joyo Sparrow up on Sunday, adding quite a bit of drive andharmonics to my tone. I was really pleased with the results, the bass notes really came through the mixmakingv the bass stand out as an element of the harmonies, not just rhythm. I didn't miss the mids control as there's enough adjustment in the other two controls to dial in a good sound. I don't think there's much of a mid-scoop in this pedal with the knobs in the middle.

Hello.

I play bass for one of the worship teams at my church. I recently just purchased my first pedal (besides my tuner). I bought a SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver DI which I use to plug in directly to the soundboard.

I'm considering purchasing a few more pedals (over time) and creating a small pedalboard.

What kind of pedal should I invest in next?

I was thinking a compression pedal might be good to have. Or maybe a reverb pedal. I'll keep reading through this thread and see if I can find any past posts that deal with this, but if anyone has any recommendations for a good 2nd pedal, let me know.

Honestly, reverb (in my opinion) should be last on your list. I find reverb usage on bass to be a fine line. I only use it as a very subtle filler. You already bought your two most important pedals, the BDDI and a tuner. I would look into a drive pedal, or use a channel on your BDDI for that. A compressor is good. I really like my EHX Freeze for its latch feature.

That sounds like a cool use for a reverb pedal. I might be interested in doing something like that. If possible, I wouldn't mind seeing a video demo of how you achieve those washy ambient sounds.

Tomorrow's set is an effects lover's paradise. I'm using fuzz and my Whammy for a Moog synth feel in the Tomlin song Psalm 100. Using the POG2, Alter Ego, and BigSky reverb to cover the piano and synth parts in Oceans by Hillsong. Sets like this make me glad I have a 6 string. I'm being asked to cover a lot of territory. Lots of fun to be able to worship in a way the pushes me to be creative.

There's three of us in our worship group, not counting singers. We cover a lot of ground. From Hillsong to Marcos Witt to Tye Tribbett. I don't use the Octamizer to much yet but I have been incorporating the looper into songs that repeat a lot. It free's me up to do other things. Just to think, a few months ago the only pedal I carried was the polytuner. Yes, it's very infectious. I got a few more I'm thinking about, but for now I'm have what I need.

Here's what I'm currently using for my board...really don't use the Xerograph or expression pedal much in church, but everything else gets utilized quite often. The You're Doom is great for songs that have a synth bass.

I use no effect or only compression when I play worship. Sometimes less is more but if the songs require distortion or chorus etc. I will add them.

Been rocking this at church for about a year now. I use the Multidrive for my dirt, DM for any atmospheric stuff (bended in to taste), and the VMTD is always on for tone shaping and just a hair of grit when I really dig in.

Freeze is a really cool pedal! My guitarist has one and we use it pretty frequently for adding body to slower songs or just general atmosphere for open worship. We did find that it sometimes had a harsh metallic type sound to it, but now he runs it in front of a chorus and that seems to smooth it out. Haven't had a chance yet to try it on bass. Do you like it?

I'm slowly warming up to the Grizzly. I mainly use it as an amp sim, so it thickens the tone and gives it a little tubey grit to the sound. Normally, I'm running the Basswitch on Channel 2 (which is the bypass of the EQ section), so that's the only tonal difference I use on it. But so far, I really like it.

The Vapor Trail is easily my favorite delay pedal. I just love the tone of it; lush and true to your tone going into it. It's also very easy to dial in. I've run it with 12v and 18v, and I think I prefer the 12v better.

Awesome, I just purchased a Red Panda Context because I've been playing a lot more guitar then bass lately, but that pedal was high on my radar while I was searching. I feel like the vapor trail is under the radar for what it's capable of. Sweet pedal. Thanks for sharing!
