Not as much tap dancing as it may seem. Stuff underneath is set and forget always on. Visually since it's not seen, I don't even think about it. On top I simply switch between two preamp channels, add overdrive when needed, and select a few H9 presets from the Mastermind. The built-in tuner is great to boot.

The band plays to a click and the Beat Buddy setup on the left allows me to easily program song tempo presets. If all goes well during the live set, it's simply two taps - next song and start. But I also have the flexibility to dynamically adjust the tempo by 0.5 bpm increments on the fly as needed. It took a little getting used to simultaneously playing and tapping away, but it's all part and parcel of being in charge of the tempo for the band.

I guess my question was is everything mixed together to the monitor in on the rolls? I have to send my bass to the mic on the rolls and everything else to the monitor input in the rolls so I can control how much bass I am getting. I can get a full aviom mix in my ears but there is not enough bass level in it.

Yeah, it’s all mixed together but I control it. I run my bass nice and high.

Curious --

Of the pedals on your board, how many would you consider "essentials", meaning, you use them every Sunday / they are your main tone?
How many pedals are one trick-pony / novelty pedals that you "might flip on every once in a while"?

I've seen some absolute spaceships and I've also seen 2 pedal rigs or just a DI and both parties have said every part of their rig is essential to their tone.

I understand in gigging outside of church that there might be a more broad spectrum of sound required so some of those pedals could be needed for that.

Thoughts??

i set this up as an “essentials only” board for church today. I was fine without my compressor, but I found I did miss how it sweetens the tone ever so slightly. Also, who’s to say that the set list next week won’t require an overdrive pedal?! So to answer your question, I guess it really just depends. That being said, it’s really nice walking in and out with a gig bag over your shoulder and nothing else.

My chain goes: Fender Jazz Bass->
EHX-2020 mini tuner-> dunlop mini volume-> Boss OC-3-> Source Audio Aftershock -> Tc Flashback -> Tc HOF2 -> Tc Spectradrive
Tuner and Spectradrive are my bare bone "can't live without em" pedals. I used the HOF2 and flashback for slower songs, mostly those in 6/8 to fill space if needed. Sometimes I do volume swells. I use the aftershock (klone+clean blend) for more upbeat songs or to bring more drive, i.e. Hillsong Young and Free. I haven't had a use for the OC-3 other than for fun. All in all, I use effects pedal 20% of the time. But they are a lot of fun and offer a lot of creativity. You just gotta be careful to not overdo it.

But this is the current rig.
I like having a second stage drive and a reverb, but I could play without them. Honestly the best feature of the bigger board is the always on tuner when using the volume pedal. :)

I'll include mine as one of the spaceships here, lol. Here's what I consider essential elements to my optimal signal chain (in however many pedals it takes to achieve this) to send to FOH.

Input buffer
HPF
EQ
Compressor/Limiter
DI

It basically mimics a good studio channel strip in functionality.

Saturation/OD is a nice option to have and gets used frequently enough that it's borderline essential.

The H9 is purely for fun and certainly not essential. It's the only pedal on my board of this category.

I like controlling output volume with my foot.

The Mastermind PBC makes managing all this super easy, and of course tuning.

How do you like the Broadcast? What similar pedals have you tried, and how do they compare for saturation/OD?
