The compressors on the HX a must not be good. Almost every board I see with a Stomp has a separate compressor and often tuner. So I guess people are using it for the effects then? I don't use many effects so this is why for me I can't see why the Stomp is so great. Tuner, octave and compressor are pretty basic things for a bass player.

I don't feel like Line 6 has ever really supported bass players. I get it, there's more money to be had from guitar players as they (generally) use more effects and there are lots more of them.

The LA Studio Compressor is really good on the Stomp, but I just feel the Cali76 is superior. So I do think you can get some good compressor sounds from the Stomp. Just depends what style you like.

I think the strength of the Stomp for bass players is the flexibility to have lots of sounds that wouldn't be possible or reasonable with an all hardware board. Sure, I could get a chorus pedal, filter, drive, amp sim, etc. in separate pedals, but now my board is twice the size containing pedals I may only use 20% of the time.

there are lots of great amp models as well as IRs out there for lots of flexibility in tones if that's your thing. You can even combine guitar amp sections with bass IRs to get some great sounds that normally wouldn't be possible in the real world. An example is the Vox Fawn model - with a Bass IR, it sounds very tubey and awesome, like a different Ampeg V4B flair.

I haven't given the Stomp a fair enough tryout to really say whether it's better or not. But I'll never know if I don't actually put it through it's paces!

I agree that the compression is good. I like some of the simpler models like the tube comp and boost comp as well. Not quite up to the level of the Cali76 or an Empress but definitely good. If Shae Wooten uses it for Elevation's stuff it's good enough for me.

The Stomp definitely is very versatile and I think there are features that benefit bassists in particular. The ability to split your signal and run drives in parallel or only compress a certain frequency range for example. There are also a good amount of bass specific amps and effects on there. I haven't tried any of the guitar amps but I'll try that out.

You'd be amazed at what a touch of reverb does in conjunction with an IR. Makes it really sound like a mic'd amp in a room.

Another thing for me is having so many options and different things to mess around with. Kind of helps with the GAS.

I'll admit I haven't tried it myself. It's not cheap. I do know some respected players that use one. With the right cable (1/4" trs to make XLR which I happen to have - thanks Dave - from when I used my LA-1A as a DI) it could be an all-in-one option which would be cool. I'm kind of a set it and forget it guy. My Empress is set, my REDDI has no settings. I like to stay simple and small, and the Stomp is small. Scrolling through presets without an additonal pedal seems like a weakness - for live performance.

IDK, what I have seems to work, and the few tunes where I'd use an effect or two doesn't seem worth it - either for individual pedals and a larger board or the Stomp option.

I'm glad everyone e is liking their set ups though.

I imagine if you are happy with one "preset" now you wouldn't need to be scrolling through presets with the Stomp. Use it for 3 stompbox's, EQ, filtering, amp sim, cab sim, noise gate on one preset. Boom, no need for additional pedals.

Many users primarily use one preset. The setting that dwagner is referencing/using above is a single preset.

I guess I agree to disagree. In my mind, having/using a noise gate, 3 different stomp boxes , EQ, HPF/LPF, amp sim and/or cab sim in a form factor smaller than 3 traditional stomp boxes (7x5) seems like you are using a lot of the potential of the HxStomp. And we haven't even begun to discuss the potential power you can use in a single preset with Snapshots.

'Zactly.

For arguments sake, let's say you settle on one preset on the Stomp. My fav is comp, tape saturation, octave, amp, cab, parametric eq. That's $100/block (pedal). That's crazy cheap. And these effects sound great!

Plus a tuner.

I'm sorry but $150 is absolutely outrageous. I've heard his tone and it's not really that great. SMH.

I thought the same thing. I've bought presets from Adam Kiser, Nick Edwards, Aaron Rivera via That Worship Sound, and they all have been reasonably priced. I was excited for David Curran's but not for the price of a pedal. Maybe if I didn't have a microsynth and tone hammer already since he has presets for those. I'm hoping he'll eventually sell them individually instead of one big package deal. There's gotta be some serious mojo there…

I gotcha now. So my thoughts on that (considering I have the Khan DI and Stomp). I could get by using the Empress > simple EQ pedal > Khan. It would sound really good too. In fact I have done some experimenting running Empress > Broughton RFE and/or Broughton Silver Deluxe > Khan and it does sound good.

Do I feel like the Stomp could replace all three? Yes......but.....it would sound...different. And not "different" in a bad way. It's just different because its a different piece of gear. So, if you like the sounds you are hearing from others using the Stomps amp blocks/presets then I think you would be ok. I guess what I'm saying is, if you like the core, "clean", tone that can be had from the Stomp, then it would have far more functionality and versatility.

What I would recommend is to find a used Stomp, get some advice or use some presets we all are trying, experiment, then decide for yourself. If you buy used you can generally get your money back.
